Adrenaline Rush Sports Classic - Mackay
ARSA Kitesurfing Event at Mackay
Saturday morning, with a flick of the switch the wind was on and honking. Day 1, Freestyle was on the menu and competitors were filling the beach nice and early. By 8am there were at least 20 kiters on the water and ready to go. By 9am briefings were all done and the Masters Open and Pro were first up to test the conditions and set the levels high for the Freestyle division. The conditions were a little trying at first leaving some of the unhooked moves a bit on the wild side and a little carnage to keep the spectators keen. The Mens open and pro heats were next off the mark and by this stage the level of riding was awesome. These were by far the bigest divisions, seeing 26 kiters in the open men division was unreal. The women and juniors heats followed closley and by this stage the wind had died right down. It was great to see so many chicks out there on the water having a ball and giving it there best. To see 10 chicks in competition is a rare thing and we want to keep it this way. Go Girls!! The juniors continued to impress with their high level of riding ability as usual and enjoyed ripping it up and putting on a great show for all.
This years wake winch park was insane, and inbetween heats the boys continued trying to master the new improved winch park. With a few technical dramas the wake winch decided to come and go at its own leasure. The wind hung in there for all the heats plus allowed us to get through the most of the finals. We called it a successful day and it was set to run the finals for the men open and pro first up at 9am to start day 2.
Let the party begin......... The Ambassador Hotel is where the party was at! Everyone came in true party form as kiters sure know how to do. The Ambassador set the party atmosphere and the kiters made it happen. An awesome night was the only thing possible when you put so many positive, fun and unreal people in a room, crank some good tunes, have a boogy on the dance floor and add a few good drinks. What a night!
DAY 2.........A new day proved to have a few slight dramas to our planned tight schedual. Rocking up to the beach with an extreamly saw head was the least of my worries, the mens finals were up first at 9am and none of them were there. The wind was perfectly on que and ready and waiting for our riders. So, the show must go on. We got straight into the mens open final which was wicked to watch and the boys were going huge, straight up the mens pro followed and all that made it rode well. After a huge night, they were a little slow to get started but managed to be ripping by the final 10mins.
Boarder X.... was what day 2 was all about. The first ever event in Australia and it went off!
This was run slightly different with the divisions split into 3, men/women and junior. And only 1 winner, first over the line and with the fastest time. Everyone throughly loved this event. It was super fast, loads of action, plenty of carnage on the first bouy and opened the competition to be anyones game. To see everyone having such a ripper time on the water and the spectators going nutz while we put on a dam good show. The wind was unreal and we got through the entire event in record times and all competitors still hungry for more. We decided to run a few relays made up of 3 per team, 1x chick and 2x guys. All racing at the same time, 5 teams heading for the one bouy and some awesome racing aswell as some unforgettable carnage. All in all just a fantastic and super fun race had by all.
Presentations finished up Sunday night at Azure @ the surf club. This was a formal dinner and dress code and a great night. Great to see everyone all scrubed up so nice:)
