Snapper, Kelly, and 'that' board. It's all happening on the

It's Quiksilver Pro time, and with the swell that Snapper Rocks had in the past month, the worlds pro's were rubbing their hands together. The best part of the Quicky Pro, is that the hoardes of surfers are cleared from the lineup leaving the best waves on the Gold Coast, all to those in that particular heat.

One slight problem this week, is the fact that the world class conditions you've seen last week, are gone. There are still smiles from the pro's, because after all it's the Quiksilver pro; but it's choppy, moody, and inconsistent surfing conditions on offer from Snapper Rocks, with a dark and stormy sky above.

Speaking of dark and stormy, images of an all carbon fibre board are floating around the internet, as it made an appearance under Kelly Slaters arm while he walked down the beach. Inspired by that buzz board, the Banana, this vacuum bagged, hollow carbon quad certainly stands out in sanded black finish. Under his feet, it's fast, incredibly lively and works well with so much rocker, but only when it gets hollow. Round one saw Kelly surf everything he found, racking up 11 waves in the first heat but only placing in second behind Matt Wilkinson. "I was just kind of excited to get on waves and surf which was probably the wrong game plan." Told Kelly after the heat; "Conner (Coffin) was super patient in the heat. He waited for like 15 minutes and got a four. You could sit there for ages with priority and get nothing. I felt like it was maybe better play into my odds and catch a lot of waves and maybe one of them would have a nice wall."

Round two for Kelly produced little in the way of waves, with his best score being a 6.93, and he only found 5 in total. Rookie surfer Stuart Kennedy from Lennox smashed out the best wave of the competition though, sneaking onto the wave behind Kelly and going way past vertical for two huge smacks. The 9.5 earned him an emotional first place, obviously meaning a lot to him, as he surfed in with his head in his hands, taking in what he'd just done. That's Kelly done and dusted for this competition, something which nobody expected!

While it's still early days in the Quiksilver Pro, things are proving to be pretty spectacular. There's four days left of competition due to the swell forecast to drop off later this week, so flick on the live stream and watch as the worlds best enjoy an uncrowded (for once) lineup at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast.
