Hey Tiddlywinks,

The current Bag Limits on Category 1 fish are 7 fish per angler/diver. You may not take more than the individual bag limits on particular fish though.

Individual Bag limit of Cat 1 fish: 2 x Dhufish, 4 x Baldchin Groper, 2 x Pink Snapper, 2 x Breaksea Cod.

This bag limit is about to be reduced on the 15th October and some minimum sizes increased as well as a complete ban on taking of any Cat 1 fish until 25th December 2008. I dare say there'll be a few blokes out fishing for Pinkies and Dhu's on Christmas day!

The above haul would be a fishing inspectors wet dream unless it was caught by three fishers due to the excessive number of Dhu's and Snapper.

New rules are very complicated when you start filleting fish and trunking.

All in all it can't be a bad thing unless you are a KGW.

Good fishing,

I haven't done much fishing lately and am not sure of the current boat limits but surely they would still be over if they were in the same boat.
If people keep raping the ocean like they are that poor kid in the bottom of the photo will be lucky to catch a Dhuie when he is older. Gone are the days when you just caught all that you could and divvy up what you can't eat or fit in the freezer with your neighbors, and rightfully so.

I Never new the Limit obviously, If I had 3 people on board I can bring home 6 Jewies 12 baldies 6 pinkies and 6 black arsse.. I need a BIGGER Boat. Seems like too many to me.
Maybe just sour grapes on my part. If I had 2 - 14 kg Jewies in the Bag you would still be able too hear me sreaming Ya Fu&%en Hooieeeeee!!
P:S Can I have the co-ordinates ?

There's a rule in my boat......

......If you don't eat fish....you don't come fishin'!

Sadly, due to current time restrictions, it's been too long between wetting lines, and if I don't go soon, the wife will have to buy fish.....even she's telling me to get out there and catch some!

There's just too much wind at present!

Hi Guys,

Latest updates on the new fishing regs is that the government in their infinate wisdom has withdrawn the 15 Oct start date for their new rules as even they can't understand the implications of their own new laws.

Our freediving club has sent in some simple questions about the new limits and filleting etc in the new rules and they can't answer them. So essentially, their new rules are frustrating, over complicated and confusing. Another well thought out government initiative!

The new rules allow for a boat limit of 2 personal bag limits so there is no point in going out with more than one other person on your boat as your personal bag limit is severely restricted by additional fishers, but again, the start date has been delayed until they can understand their own rules!

It is making it more and more expensive to get a feed from the ocean as costof boat, plus insurance, plus registration, plus maintenance, plus ridiculous fuel costs, parking fees at boat ramps, mooring fees at Rotto, license fees for crays all add up to an expensive day fishing. Fishing is to become an elite sport for the wealthy only. Gone will be the days where I will be able to afford to take my kids out fishing if we are even allowed to in another 10 years.

Fresh fish on the table isn't that cheap anymore.

W@nkers! Vote Liberal at the next election before Labour decide to ban fishing altogether.

Good fishing,

They've done it with Duck shooting over here (not a big fan of that one, but my dad was), won't be long before recreational fishing becomes outlawed....what next....driving on the beach??? (hang-on, that one's already in place here)
