Just saw Oblivion yesterday SPOILER ALERT don't read further if you have not seen it.
Aliens chasing earth people. Earth people chasing aliens.
Machines chasing earth people. Earth people chasing Machines. All good stuff .
Great CGI . I guess you just have to get over Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise and look past that. Ending could have done with bit more intensity but not bad.

Yeah Dune was awesome. What a difficult book to bring to the big screen! Done with great imagination.

Total Recall was heaps of fun. So was Starship Troopers.

Brazil had a big impact on me, probably dated a bit now.

Does Robot Chicken count Supremely funny.

2001, Blade Runner, Alien all superb

The Fly was great

District 9 gritty

Love this genre! Saw The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) recently just to see what the early stuff was like, worth seeing if you're a sci-fi fan.

This year looks particularly good in terms of industry investment, let's hope the quality is there too.

Was watching the trailer last night. I never watch movies that:

a) have a helicopter exploding in it.
b) have a scene where there's an explosion and the protagonist is thrown/jumps through the air toward camera arms and legs flailing while they escape the fireball.

...so I wont' be watching Oblivion.

I'm amazed nobody has mentioned this upcoming film. Elysium

Maybe because no one has seen it? It looks like another fascist story where the hero can overcome all.

Star Wars for me The original IMHO is the best.
I saw District 9 not too long ago and I really enjoyed that. I'd never heard of it and had no idea what was going on cause I missed the first 20-30 minutes but it was really cool.
I also watched Alien about a month ago and couldn't believe the gratuotous shots of Sigorney Weaver in her wayyyyy too small undies when she is in the escape pod at the end. Don't interpret that as a complaint
though, it's all good

Tron and Dune take me back ...

Unfortunately "Dune" wasn't a patch on the book.

It's the latest movie from Blomkamp, his last was District 9.
I expect it is in 3D so the social commentary come right at you.

Also Carruth has another film, his last was Primer.
This one is called Upstream Color [sic].
www.wired.com/2013/03/primer-shane-carruth/

I just realised Primer is missing form this list but be warned it has no aliens or explosions; it's time travel like has never been done before. I'll admit I didn't get it after the 2nd viewing either.

...Primer is a thinking person's movie. It's not really a movie at all, it's a puzzle. A very, very hard puzzle.
