Went out last week just off Safety Bay ( about 6km) for a fish , have seen many different types of fish over the years , including a huge sunfish, giant bait schools , whales ,tuna jumping everywhere, and lots of sharks, BUT what swam around my boat last sunday we initialy thought was a small whale, for about 2 seconds , then we realised it was the biggest White Pointer I have ever seen, it was about 3mtrs deep at least, in crystal clear wind free water ,the boat is 6mtrs long and it at that depth to be at least as big as the boat!!
I once gaffed a mako shark that swam past , and being only inches below the surface I thought it would have been about 2 ft 6, how wrong that judgement was , upon the gaff entering near its head the shark went crazy!! after getting a rope around the tail and one around the head we finaly brought it onboard, it was 5 ft 10inches!!.
So thinking about that if this shark was 6mtrs long while at least 3mtrs under the water it would be a freekin MONSTER !!!
20 minutes after seeing it ,heading in the direction it was heading , Safety Bay would be where it could be,
So keep your eyes open while your out there boys and girls cause if this thing just had a little bite you would dissapear!!!
Take care out there

Had a 4mtr white pointer do 3 laps around me at the point , there is plenty out there very unerving!!
I think that because of the lack of food out deep they are coming in close looking for tucker, seals would be just that .

Ok here we go long time reader first time poster!

I'll start off by saying hi all!

This topic hits pretty close to home, about 6 weeks ago same deal except not quite so big. Whilest fishing between garden and carnac island great white pops up to say hello, gives us a bit of a nudge and swims around for about 5 minutes then off it swims. Best of all I got the footage to prove it, some of you may have seen it on the news channel 10 saturday night about 6 weeks ago.

Mind the language in the clip some off it is rather colourful we were all quite excited.

Oh crap.
I've been sailing on the open water for some time now. At least not around Safety Bay.
Back to the river until I learn how to gybe.

Couldnt get the camera out and started, but seeing that one gives the one I saw much more perspective on it's size , would have taken at least half of that in one bite if not more!!!!!!!!
Must remember to keep the camera loaded with new batteries in the future

Seen it on the news Benno. Last few weeks there have been some ripper stories of a monster in the bay near the tyre wreck and out near the sticks. Also mates old man was thrown from aft of his boat to the cab after a white bumped the bottom of his boat north of Garden Island. Never heard of them being so care free about boats in these areas. They know there is something to eat in em. Can feel another poor diver bein taken again soon. Bring out the shark repalent.

Hey you recokon that would follow you at 35-50 kph? an take a bite?
Or would it follow you untill you came a cropper on a jibe?
Are they aggressive enough to do that?
There was a snorkler last year that got taken unfortunatly by one in the same bay.

Shark Shield SURF
List Price: $600.00 USD
The Shark Shield SURF is a compact light-weight unit designed specifically to be mounted on most watercraft including surfboards, kayaks, canoes and windsurfers.

I rest the boom on the back of the board when i waterstart so im not sure it this application would suit.

Anyone else looked into it?
Not sure if its worth doing as time in the water is limited.

Heavy.

Only a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday there was a bronzie chasing snapper through the line up at secrets as well...the boys said it wasn't quite that big but just big enough.

dunno, but a young girl got jumped by a seal last year while skurfing behind a boat, and the way I've seen GWS leap, I wouldn't be surprised if one would have a go

I won't scuba dive without my shark shield on

wonder if it might have something to do with ppl teaching them to associate food with boats...

Took all my self discipline not to respond to the shart spelling.
