Hi

Does anyone have a suggestions for a board game that I can send my nephews for Christmas? Rumour has it that they like a game called Dominion:Intrigue.

Ages are 8,10 and 13.

I used to love Risk - do kids still like this game ? Or is it just wishful thinking on my part!

Any ideas would be most appreciated!

Thanks.

I'm 21 and still played occasionally... even though I would slam the board if my army gets annihilated (as usual xD) I reckon it's a great game!

also "Hotel" boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1502/hotel-tycoon it's pretty good
and Kragmortha boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/26859/kragmortha is amazing, if you have enough players

No Way. I do not want them spending anymore time in front of a computer or TV. I want them to play something that encourages thought and using therir head not their thumbs!

Chess, a nice wooden set.

I learnt to play when I was 5.

Well - slightly off centre...

I got my 12yo son (2yrs ago), a cheapish $300 cam-corder (JVC that records straight to 2x SD cards) and a $60 tri-pod (Target)...

Over the years there have been plenty of 'cool' gifts that get used for a week then no more... Microscope, Chemistry set, Electronics kit, Scaletrix, Lego, R/C 4WD etc etc... but this one get used all the time... he and his mates set up 'shots' and video themselves doing tricks on their skaties, or Basketball shots or anything... it is possibly the one present that he has used more than any other. And it teaches him stuff - particularly as now he is into editing.

Or - what about a Rip-Stik each... they are cheap now.

I used to play Risk with the old man many moons ago... I did find a new version of it - this one doesn't take all weekend to take over the world ! More of a faster turn around to keep the kids interested. But you would need to understand the game to sit down and explain it to them... by kids were 10 & 12 when I got it, and they seemed to enjoy it.

What did we do before the internet?

Catan is very good. Have had many arguments playing that over a few brews, mostly the women arguing actually.

Dominion:Intrigue is an extension to Dominion, so assuming they already have Dominion it'd be a safe bet/buy.

Well said. Its just that I am not a fan of encourgaing them to play those games though......I am now seriously looking into GPA's suggestion. A vid camera would allow them to get creative and also learn some editing skills as well. Thanks for that idea GPA!!

I don't know. My nephews have had all the consoles and games, and even though they like them they would rather hit me and get a few punches in than play them when I am around. (Is it the kids, or do people just like to hit me?)

They get so many toys that they are mostly wrapped up and ignored minutes after they get them. I think a board game would be better for them, as long as you took the time to play it with them.
