Gaffer tape is always attracting a lot of praise for it's miriad of uses, but for me cable ties have proved invaluable as standard kit when camping ect. Anyone?

Brings to mind: Conficious says - Man who go camping with woman, have naughty intent.

Or

Silence is golden - and gaffa tape is silver.

Cable ties, duct tape and zip-lock plastic bags. If you can't fix it with those three you are in real trouble.

I'm also a big fan of cable ties, they are useful for holding stuff in place.

But for fixing stuff, TV's, HiFi, small appliances, etc - it's a hammer, chisel and a large shifter.

I find the hammer will fix heaps of stuff. If I can't locate my hammer to fix things, I use my shifter to hammer nails in and round off the corners of tiny nuts. If the hammer and the shifter doesn't do the job I'll use the chisel - which sometimes doubles as screwdriver.

I hope my kids buy me a dremel this fathers day.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.

Don't forget rubber inner tube and fencing wire. Using cable ties is getting a little fancy for me.

I was showing my friend a used fin I put on my board, I said it needed a longer screw and I couldn't find it anywhere so I had to mail order it.
He said the tread doesn't have to fit exactly, close is good enough ???!!! He's from Russia.

American's invented a Space Pen that didn't need gravity to assist the ink. The Russian's just continued to use the pencil. Same in Antarctica, the Russians found that the trusty pencil worked fine at minus 40 degrees C, and beyond!

Cable ties and velcro are probably two of the greatest inventions of modern times. We take them for granted but the amount of force they can sustain for the minimal effort to apply them is surely unsurpassed

The TRG use something like 15mm cable ties. They would have a loop strength of something like 200kgs I reckon

Large reusable cable ties are my favorite.
They have a little tang to release the catch.

Love'em.

You're right about heat. Had a large seized nut on an old car that wouldn't budge. A plumbing mate told me about heat. Got one of these. Best tool I've bought in 3 decades. Wouldn't be without it now.

Cable ties are brilliant for those considerate people who like to drop their cray pots with 15000m of rope right in the middle of a surf break

WD40 is for sooks!

A few years ago I had a mate call me,
He had problems with getting the tyres off the rims of his loader- rusted together due to working on one of the W.A. salt farms.

Detcord fixed the problem real quick
did 4(?) sets of rims that morning!

Had another easyfix for recycling old dozer tracks that were seized after sitting in the weather for umpteen years, a little detcord and powergel soon shook the rust off and freed them up!

Over the years I found Dr Nobels rapidly expanding tools to be very effective at all sorts of jobs including cleaning out and sealing leaking farm dams

Cable ties are not all the effective as a fan belt. Got about 5mins running for 30minutes of work. Though tensioning "the belt" was a tool-less affair.

I agree. However The Yankees are taking velcro off their military uniforms/clothing, going back to buttons. Especially for Special Ops, they hate the added noise when you're trying to be super quiet!

However, I give you 2 better inventions...
1) The humble t-shirt
2) Premium Beers!
