Currently staying at a Shark Bay Stn... There is nothing, no water, power, dunnys nada zip bupkis - all for $32.50 a night!
Same deal at Gnaraloo is $38 a week!
Going to Monkey Mia in a couple days where we have access to everything (incl pool ,bar & restaurant) for $30 a night.

Just can't see where $32:50 a night is going...

We should have state campgrounds spread around the place like the yanks have, free to use but I think you can only stay for a max of 6 days at a time.

Even a 2 night limit would be useful for transiting travellers. The lack of overnight rest areas would probably almost be verging on negligence.

Lack of decent rest stop areas hits truckies pretty hard too.

Many of the truck companies dictate that thier drivers must be off the road from 10pm to 6am, so they can comply with OHS regulations for sleep.

Only problem is in many areas there are no proper places set up for parking road trains, oversized load convoys and regular trucks [or tourists]

I have seen oversized loads still on the roads well over an hour after sunset [illegal] as they could not find a space to park!

Practically every roadside "rest bay" on the Great Northern Goat Track is decorated with used dunny paper and poo

Some of the better stops [usually alongside rivers] cop it particularly hard as they get used by tourists as well as truckies.

Why couldnt some of the "royalties for regions" cash be diverted to roadside overnight stops and campgrounds, then the same funds be put towards employing and equipping a few locals from each shire to drive up and down the highway servicing the campgrounds / filling water tanks etc?

Had to reignite this topic....just looking into booking a caravan park east of Albany post new years (thought we would wait and miss the rush). The quote per night for two adults and two kids over 5 came in at $64 per night.

Absolutely stunned.......

Does anyone know what I can expect to pay at Yardie Homestead in October, including school hols for a powered site?

Yep, thats the sort of price I was being quoted, and we found it comparable/a little more just to get a holiday house for the week.

Just ring up and ask.

Be aware that they have to generate their own power so there are resrictions on what you can use the power for. No air cons etc.
It should be cheaper than others in the area though.
And it saves the long drive round the point if you are going to be spending time down in the park.
And you can always get in there which you can't always elswhere, so you generally don't have to book ahead.

I do alot of camping as I live in Albany. A 4wd and getting off the beaten track is the sure way. Sometimes I see no camping signs, and wonder why? Because they want you to stay 10kms away in an overpriced caravan park? I just spent 2 nights west of town on a mint grassed campsite on the beach with 4 of us. Went kayaking, 4wding, swimming, shell collecting. Caught a nannygai, breaksea, samsonfish, bronzy and a queenie in the yak. Set up a gazebo and tents. No "no camping signs". Saw at least 4 other campsites on my travels in that area. Closer to town, there are many fishing spots of the beaten track that double as excellent camp spots. At peak times, it does get harder, as people are beginning to find these spots too, but every year I am exploring more and finding more and more spots. Couple of months back went east of town to a place I have never been before looking to camp on the beach....and found this gem. Old shack, free gas bbq, spare life jackets and mattress's inside, and some tables and a proper fireplace.....all free.
Get off the beaten track and reap the rewards.

I dont know if its true but are caravan parks putting a restriction on the length of vans allowable in the caravan parks, i have heard 25 feet or is this just as per discretion of each park owner
