Hey all,

Anyone know where to get a good deal on a GoPro?

My one recently took on water... the seals were worn out..... next time around, I will replace the casing after 12 months.

Is there any kind of warranty against that happening?

When I got mine, I drove to nearly every shop in Perth (most were out of stock, or didn't have the outdoor edition) and they were all the same price. Might have to go online.

A mate of mine grabbed a few of the GoPro2's for us in the US earlier this year for the advirtised US price, about $100 cheaper than here. Add another $100 or so for a good SD card. Skatreboard shop in Claremont & kitesurfing shop in Freo are good sources for accessories.

you are getting ripped off if you paid $100 for an SD card. Should be <$30 for a 16GB, and <$50 for a 32GB. Not sure if you would need a 32GB card thou, as the GoPro will probably run out of batteries before you can fill the memory.

PRA Imaging in Newcastle St have a new stock of GoPros and accessories. I was in there on Friday last week.

I don't think you'll find much discounting going on - they are like iPods - basically a popular product that the manufacturer does not have to discount to sell.

GoPro recommend a Class 10 SD card so that it can record full HD at speed (for the super slo-mo effects) - and these are expensive. Cheapest place I have found is from Office Works.

a wild idea, but you could actually buy one from seabreeze (or at least one of their sponsors).
Each one bought this way comes with a warm fuzzy feeling...

Was outside of warranty..... they really should note that you replace the cover every year.... those seals won't last forever.........

Contour that much better? Most people seem to prefer the GoPro.

I do support seabreeze, buy all my second hand gear through here, and also sell on here too. I also buy gear from their sponsors......

But am in budget land at the moment... so if I can get a good deal.... I will try :P

my go pro filled up with lots of condensation while in Mauritius, so much that when I opened it water poured out.

The Go Pro wouldnt turn on either so I removed the battery and let it dry out.

Next day it worked like new again.

Not sure how much water you got in it but its worth a try, even unscrew it and place in oven on very very low to allow all the water to evaporate.

Pretty much same thing happened to mine.

I went so far as to open it right up, very carefully, and even put it in a plastic bag full of new silicon packs to asborb any moisture....

It turned on, but the LCD characters looked affected..... I noticed a small calcium(?) residue on the circuit board, googled about using alcohol, which I then used with cotton buds to wipe it down...... no improvement...... its screwed.........

I have heard of mobile phones 'recovering' after 2-3 weeks of being drowned... and I have personally managed to 'fix' a laptop that had lemonade spilt in it by pulling it apart and washing the motherboard off with warm water and drying with a hair-drier... (in that case it took 3-4 days) so don't throw it out just yet. Leave it apart for a while longer.

Just a question to those with wth condensation issues...

Did you guys have any of these?

http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/anti-fog-inserts/

These are worth their weight in gold and you can never buy too many of them. They of course won't help with seal leakages but definitely condensation.

There is a tip however and this is somehting that applies to changing Lenses on SLR cameras also....

Try never to remove/open the casing (or remove a lense) in a humid or warm environment then return the device to a cold or colder environment ie water. So in other words with the GoPro you should only open and close the casing in your hotel room/house in the aircon. Dry bathrooms are actually best. Never do it at the beach.

Quick tip with GoPros'; don't ever leave the case fully closed for extended periods as it can deform the seal, always check the seal for dust/hair etc before you close it and you will never have a problem.

Every now and then, Surfstitch (online) have this store wide sale where they discount everything by around 30% (29% last time in celebration of the olympic medals aussies won). I know they stock Contour cameras also. Worth a look if you are willing to wait.

I thought Id be clever and buyt one duty free, butthey only had older models , the hong kong had never heard of them.
the best deal would have been seabreeze, and they had the best accessories.
sorry seabreeze, I'll just trust you next time

Bought a Drift Stealth 10 months ago and just started having problems with the picture colours, took it back to the shop and they gave me the new model on warranty and bought a GoPro2 while I was there. Didn't think about buying on the net when Launch gave me good service and it's handy being able to do a straight swap at the shop if anything goes wrong with it, looking forward to comparing them both.

Also dropped into Jcar and picked up a couple of Mini and Micro HDMI to HDMI adapters for under 10 bucks each.

If saving cash gives you a warmer fuzzy feeling, jump on ebay and purchase.

You could also try the online US dirtbike stores like BTO sports, Rocky Mountain ATV.. etc...

or just flog one of drift when he's not looking.

Just remember to wine and dine before you intend mounting something.....

I've got a couple of spare helmet mounts if you want one...

They're about $50 - 60 cheaper if you can get someone who's going through duty free to pick on up for you.

Otherwise a good option is if you're buying new gear anywhere try get a deal, I got $75 off retail just when I was buying some snow clothes. Saves a bit of money left over for an SD card and some accessories

"Replay" is even smaller and more compact than Contour. Both a smaller and sexier than GoPro!

Replay XD -

Contour - contour.com/stories/john-jackson-red-bull-supernatural-free-ride-day-contour

GoPro - gopro.com/videos/snow/snowboarding-with-the-pole-cam/

It might look sexier but compared to the other two options its far off the mark in quality

Head down to where they are going to pump the spoil to from the dredging in Safety Bay and you could probably get quite a few for free, with the added bonus of pre-recorded kitesurfing
