Borich slipped into "Aussie pub rock"
I would not say slipped, rather stepped.
"Aussie pub rock" is where the real social dialogue is.
Yeah, no. Pub rock, especially in Melbs was more of an outer suburban phenomenon,in the big beer barns that could hold 1000 punters. I reckon pub rock was a bigger force in NSW in the "clubs" and in country towns. In melbs at the time I think there was more of an alternative music culture that really shaped music right up till the... well now
Mate...we had our fair share of great pub rock venues...some close to 1000...all in late 70's to 80's but pre recorded dance music and the pokies killed it off..there was the Lifesaver at Bondi, the Governors pleasure at the rocks (not 1000 tho), Selinas at Coogee Bay, The Sydney Cove Taven...Chevron over the Harbour, The Antler at Narabeen...to name a handful...and then the big clubs in suburbia as you mentioned...Workers club in Darlo and out at Cronulla, Seals at Maroubra.
The sydney/melbourne rivalry gets tiresome...there's just as many great bands who came out of Sydney as Melbourne...its just that in Melbourne there's stuff all else to do
but you do have some damn fine restaurants down there.
