Missed opportunity IMO.
For this small island ship wrack could mean indefinite gold mine.
All was needed just push a wreck few meters down, to hide under water completely.
Marine life also like such habitat and we have examples of ships being sunken for this purpose and as a diving attraction same time.

Not possible as the is tonns of rotting food and chemicals still in it.
For that 800 mln $ spent on reflating some cleaning cold be made.
To remove 1.5 tones of frozen chicken and barrels with paint.
Technically cleaning shouldn't be more challenging the re floating.
I guess such option wasn't desired by island inhabitant or government.
Pity because the spot is fabulous for diving, crystal clear and warm water. shallow water mean everybody could dive without the need for special equipment.
Close distant to shore, whole future generations could live and profit of this event.

Ok macro you get in there and do it. I know that I wouldnt
I think they have made the correct decision imo.
Ok macro you get in there and do it..
I would love to ( dive there) even remove this buckets with paint on voluntary basic if that could help
Ok macro you get in there and do it..
I hada feeling that you would be keen to dive on it.
I think this would smell -
Trapped inside the upturned hull are more than 24,000 lbs of fish, nearly 5,500 lbs of cheese, 1,500 gallons of ice cream in tubs, 24,000 lbs of pasta, 2,000 lbs of onions, more than 2,000 pots of jam and nearly 17,000 tea bags. Rotting beneath the waterline are more than 17,000 lbs of raw beef, nearly 11,000 eggs, 2,346 hot dog buns, 815 lbs of rabbit meat and more than 1,000 gallons of milk.
...and 32 lost souls.
Probably more after people start trying to dive in its labyrinthine interior which is a short swim from shore.
I volunteer to take care of the vine and liquor cellars.......... all that vine and cognac and scotch and liquors rotting must be removed fast! You do not want to see drunk fish and planktons!?
the bottom drops away very steeply over there. If they took it out any further it would very quickly be undiveable. Also it's massive. There would be thousands of litres of hydralic fluid, chemicals, fuels, toxins from paints, sewerage etc etc. Shxt would be constantly bubbling up and washing ashore. Relitives would like their loved one's bodies back. Also it's worth money as scrap. As an idea it's right up there with your electric boat mate
WA, how come the vid don't work ?The AFP involved ?
Works on YouTube but not on the site for some reason.
I heard they renamed it from Costa Concodia to Costa Lotta!!!
Not that bad business at the end.
If costs just $7.8 per kg of scrap metal or $7800 per tonne.
I am not sure how much we can get on scrap yard here but I know that for $500 you could buy 1 tone of the quality construction steel from China.
and that is how everything started
the ship cost about 450mil to build, 850mill+ to salvage.
its stuck on a pristine marine reserve
now sitting on metal plates and is not yet floated.
