After having a head on collision with a drink driver in 1985 and living in constant pain ever since makes my opinion very simple.

I got cleaned up in a head on by a drunk in 1973, and yeh I have a constant reminder also

I was 6,my sister was 2 months old,the old man was a violent alco (guns, knives so on) mum had gone to work as a tax driver, during a job she took a hit rear ended by another driver(female bar tender drunk as ),she got out check her passenger, then the other car all good but a brocken ankle of other driver.
.8 hours 20mins later she was dead, seperated spleen i think bleed to death internally
never really saw my sister after taht was raised by others,me went to the grandparents, grandfarther was also a drunk who would get smashed everday and then drive home and piss him self in the corner whilst a sleep.a half uncle was in a few crashes(allways pissed) as i grew up in this house
my life from that moment of mums crash changed ,so did i i became the worlds biggest asshole and the hate/anger i have from this moment still grows
as a result of actions taken by others with out any thought to how thier actions would inpact on otherswhen i was old enough i hunted the other driver down, they to gutlees even then to take resposability for the crash
my point ithink is that no matter what the law says dickheads will do as they please and not care about the outcome and not give a **** about how it impacts on anyone else
my solution is simple let them drive pissed when they get caught they then have to do several laps of a race track drunk with thier own relos in the car and other pissed drivers on the tracks,,

I reckon that the ones that drink too much and drive will still do it, regardless of the limit. It all sounds a bit like the gun laws, only the honest bunnies handed them in.
If zero can be shown to save one Australian life ,it has to be worth it.We use designated drivers now so why not designated driver with zero alcyhol???

The only people a .02 alcohol limit will affect are the ones that do the right thing. Those that choose to drink drive have no regard for the law and even less regard for their fellow humans. While the punishment for drink driving is pathetically lenient, there really is no deterrent to people doing the wrong thing. If you get caught at .08 for instance you may get a $300 fine and three months with a day licence from 6am to 7pm 6days a week so basically you cant drive for 12 sundays.
I don't think droping the limit is the answer. They should however get more serious with the punishment IMO.

dude - that did take courage to post that!

Kids should be loved and loved and loved...nothing more, "NOTHING" less!
They can be rat bags..but all in all, all they want is love.
Every one was a kiddie once, can't people remember what it's like
to feel no love..."It breaks your soul not being loved"

I don't think it took guts, but thanks, such is life,as for my sister, meet her as her brother once about 9 years ago,she was raised by an uncle and evil aunt, they had a son not long after getting her and raised them as brother and sister and i was on the outside looking in with no hope, she has a good life and a couple of groms ,,which makes me an uncle but i have been told that they do not know of me and never will,i sort of understand as i would not want a person like me in they're life either

,the uncle who raised her ended up gassing himself(coward) after i first tried to make contact ,the thinking was that i would come along a stuff things up for them all.
as for the relos i grew up with as you can see dickheads do not think, that is ,they continued to drink and drive after what happened and did not care even knowing what had happened(can't pick ya family glad most of them are long gong to the other side)
This will come across wrong but in the end mum dying was a good thing,,that is if we had stayed with the old man i would be dead or in prison and who knows what the dick would have done to my sister he was an evil lowlife and yep he had been in crashes after getting pissed ,also would have probaly got wiped out in Tracey (sure the old man dying would have been better)but hey such is life so i became the ashole that i am,theyre is others out there who have had worse to happen ,
as for the love or needing to be loved bit never happened my guess is it never will,(could be the reason i have not pulled a root in 20 years)
so have a couple a beers and get in ya car whats the worst that can happen,(and if you get cuaght or have a crash have the balls to front the survivours and see how it feels ,ya can not **** my life up anymore

oh forgot dudedog loves me but only cause i feed him and he has yet to have better offer

the only photo of mum and me

that's a terrible story...

In the uk the limit is 0.08...

I don't know what the right answer is...

I'm not convinced that people are a hell of a lot more dangerous at 0.05 vs 0.02, but then again, how much more "fun" is it having 0.05 in your blood vs 0.02?

That's the first time since it happened that i have ever written it down, have told the story heaps of times but never seen it in print,if it was someone else's story i would be blown away.Funny thing is having read it a few times now it explains why i am such an asshole and why i hate everything,i wonder if it never happened weather i would have ended up the same way(most likely). If this story stops one person from going through what i have great, but it was never my intention to get any pitty, just hoping that it may shed some light on what can happen from a innocent victims experience

Well Dude, forgetting about the .02 debate, I hope any a******e's that like throwing piss down their throats and then driving might like to ponder your story which sadly is far too common.

I know they are only words..you said
but I don't think anyone reading your story pity's you
people on this site (what I've seen) might get a bit fiery or a bit sarcastic
at times but their hearts seem to always be in the right place.
I think some of us are just shocked..and actually care..

There are 2 seperate issues here-

the dropping to a 0.02 limit... why? All the research in the world has disproven that driving at a bac of 0.05 is dangerous (less dangerous than any other distraction such as changing a cd). So what is the agenda here? Note that currently police officers in qld are on a 0.02 limit and they get to operate guns and cars. Any other professional driver has to be at 0.

No one is disputing that drink driving is wrong but that has nothing to do with lowering the bac. How about instead of dropping the limit they do the smart thing and raise the penalties- such as you drink drive then kiss your licence goodbye for years, none of this 1st offence/good behaviour bs.

People obviously think they can run the gauntlet at the moment- at work last year driving down the highway at 4am. 8 cars around me we all went through rbt- only 2 of us made it through. Not very good statistics there.

It sounds like writing it down was quite helpful. Feel free to shoot me down but have you thought about talking to someone (a professional) about it. I know a lot of my friends who have lost people have really benefited from this.
