I haven't been fishing for ages, but my interest in it was reignited recently. I'm planning a camping trip with a few friends at false entrance WA for some balloon fishing in late March - can't wait.
Last Sunday, I thought I'd check out if my rods/reels were still in good order. It was a nice still day so I decided to paddle out and try my luck from my sup board. My wayward son went diving with his school and told me he saw some good sized flathead in the bay, so I decided to target them. I paddled out about 400m from North Road Boat Ramp in Brighton and thought I'd try my luck.
The first 30 minutes I kept on getting snagged. I couldn't quite work out why and then I thought about hanging on to the rod and feel what the heck was going on. Within seconds I got hit. There must have been huge schools of Snapper underneath me. After that it was just non stop action and I managed bring home 7 baby snapper.
We cooked them that night on the barbeque, with the lid down, using a sweet chily sauce and lime coating - yum yum.
Tonight I was watching channel 31 and there were all these hero's catching fish from their $50K boats while all patting themselves on their obese backs - f'cking toe rags. Why don't they just take up zumba?
It's land based for me or human powered crafts. Anything else doesn't count.
They are cheat'n AFAIC
Yeah , doing fishing like that beats e hell out off the masive boat set up. Spontaneous catching that's the go!!!!!
I think 7 baby snapper is illegal pretty much every where in Australia but if you were in WA (south of Lanclin) and they were less than 500mm long they were undersize and if you had more than 2 of them you were over the limit.
Still feeling like a hero?
Got any photo's? Dumb ass
Yep.. shot my mouth off .... sorry.
But I must say I'm amased at the fishing regs over ther compared to here and thay anouced yesterday that they are going to reduce ours even more, and no doubt increase the professional catch.
Anyways sorry you were within the limits so I was wrong.
My missus does Zumba and loves it, she is a few years younger than you, I'm a few years older than you and not really interested in Zumba, i've got other intrests such as fishing and .......
I guess using nylon line, chemically sharpened hooks, bait caught from a big-arse trawler thing and then sold to you by a shop, a rod/reel and a SUP is cheating.
Now a timber outrigger canoe you made yourself and a spear you made yourself would not be cheating.
Yes?
Just playing devil's advocate here...
The only fair way to go, would be catching them by hand,
no boat, bait, tackle or gear,
Just you and the fish,.... in a match of wits, speed and strength
False entrance is a sick fishing spot, only a hop skip and a jump away from the famous " Steep Point".
Love fishing landbased, but if i am hitting the water, a kayak is my weapon of choice.http://southernfish.9.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=4773

^^^^ To me I reckon that's cool ^^^^
It's when I see those hyped up f'cking commercialised toe rags on Fishing world and those other retarded tv shows plugging stupid lures and crap in their overpriced bogan status symbol boats and jet ski's doing catch and release that irritates me.
I'd rather watch a docco made in the 70's of someone shooting dugoungs - at least they are real.
I recall Malcom Douglas having a tongue in cheek dig at the big dollar fishing shows once, wrapped a bit of old plastic shopping bag around a hook, some tinfoil on another and an empty .303 case stuck onto another one- and proceeded to haul in bulk amounts of fish- pointing out that you didnt really need all that flash expensive commercial stuff!

I take everything back. That logo on your boat is really uncool. That's exactly the thing I hate about fishing and those f'cking hyperactive retards I see on the tv promoting it.
What in gods name were you thinking when you put those stencils on that goat boat of yours?
Yeah you're right Doggie, stickers aren't bad. I've got a confession to make - I got really drunk last night on free wine - the sticker just reminded me of that dreadful Ifish tv show.
Heard long ago about George Greenough fishing from a blow up surf mat for sharks with a hand line.
Hardcore if it was true.
Hi Adolf,
Seeing Ive moved away from smelly old melbourne to the coast I dont see any reason why I should keep the best fishing spot in the whole city a secret any more. (and trust me its superb)
This place is only about 5km up the road from the north road ramp where you went out.
the good fishing starts at only 200m out from the beach and you can fish it up to 900m out.
I have personally witnessed a 17 kilo snapper being caught at this spot IN WINTER!! which is practically unheard of.
My mate has caugh a flat head as long as your arm here. and in the same session we landed over 30 flathead (not all keepers) but it was insane action for the afternoon.
I have seen gummies caught here, rods pulled over the gunwales, and calamari well over 1 kg.
its just out from the man made beach at port melbourne.
PRINCES PIER.
no longer accessable by land, but ideal for the kayak crew etc as its provides shelter on both sides and under the stanchions (where there are also masses shoals of bream)
the main melbourne shipping channel has a branch that leads straight to this old pier. so bear in mind that the water off the end is around 30 metres deep.
i dont know why, but in a northerly breeze the flathead there go fricken mental. each day we bagged out our limits was when the wind was from the north!!??!
seeing this saturday and sunday are going to be sunny and northerlies blowing you may wanna give it a crack?
I always wanted to try fishing off the SUP. Nothing better than going out and creeping up on the boats while they're fishing and asking if they are "gettin any". Lately I've been into snorkeling around the reefs in Port Phillip bay, found heaps of gear, fishing rods, fins, mask and snorkel and lots of gold balls that people must hit of the cliffs at Half Moon Bay. Has anyone been spear fishing around these parts? Seen plenty of bream, pinkies, flathead, and garfish. I know you can't do this around Ricketts Point but what about the rest of the bay?
yeah, me.
i used to spear fish with a hawaiin sling most evenings off blackrock.
small pinkies, small whiting, small flatties.
the only sizeable fish is those shark rays (ones with no barb)
ive been told they are a good eat but you have to skin them there and then to avoid the amonia getting in the flesh. (or you can soak the flesh in vinegear in the fridge apparently) and this helps.
