CO2 concentration: 0.039%

How much energy can it absorb?
What effect does it have on warming?

Now take a solar panel.
How much energy can it absorb?
What effect does it have on warming?

Now take a human.
How much energy can does it generate (Morpheus says 25000 BTU's)?
What effect do we have on warming?

Do you see where I'm going with this?
You're being distracted by BS that isn't EVER gona have any effect on the temperature.

We have way more important things to worry about that CO2. Like destruction of the rain forest, deforestation, chemical pollution, complete break down of the aquatic ecosystem...

Ban plastic.
Ban dumping in the ocean.

CO2 tax is a bureaucratic power grab with no possible benefit to our nation or the planet.

It's not a hard concept, the greenhouse effect is very important at keeping the earth warm, we need CO2... If the earth had no greenhouse effect it would be to cold to live on. In the past when CO2 was reduced to much we went into ****ing Iceages..

From wiki.
The greenhouse effect is a process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions. Since part of this re-radiation is back towards the surface, energy is transferred to the surface and the lower atmosphere. As a result, the temperature there is higher than it would be if direct heating by solar radiation were the only warming mechanism.[1][2]

Solar radiation at the high frequencies of visible light passes through the atmosphere to warm the planetary surface, which then emits this energy at the lower frequencies of infrared thermal radiation. Infrared radiation is absorbed by greenhouse gases, which in turn re-radiate much of the energy to the surface and lower atmosphere
. The mechanism is named after the effect of solar radiation passing through glass and warming a greenhouse, but the way it retains heat is fundamentally different as a greenhouse works by reducing airflow, isolating the warm air inside the structure so that heat is not lost by convection.[2][3][4]
The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824, first reliably experimented on by John Tyndall in 1858, and first reported quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896.[5]

If an ideal thermally conductive blackbody was the same distance from the Sun as the Earth is, it would have a temperature of about 5.3 °C. However, since the Earth reflects about 30%[6] (or 28%[7]) of the incoming sunlight, the planet's effective temperature (the temperature of a blackbody that would emit the same amount of radiation) is about −18 or −19 °C,[9] about 33°C below the actual surface temperature of about 14 °C or 15 °C.[10] The mechanism that produces this difference between the actual surface temperature and the effective temperature is due to the atmosphere and is known as the greenhouse effect.

You at least understand the principals involved now? And yes, that diagram shows an Earth in equilibrium, well done.

As for what can it do, I only need to point to Venus. 462 degrees C on the surface there, all thanks to a runaway greenhouse effect.
Carbon started it off, then the water evaporated causing water vapour (a worse greenhouse effect), now it's pretty much f*cked.

Yes, we also should look at other problems too, but this is also a real issue and can't be ignored.

Farking hell Trant, you're always giving me $hit about this, 2 years ago we had the same exchange... now Venus? Do you work for the IPCC?

Just look at Mars then, or the Moon for no green house. How is the RUNAWAY greenhouse gona happen outside a hollywood studio!

I know for a fact that in the past the Earth was warmer and during those periods EVERYTHING was doing great, that's why we can dig it up!

Cold is our enemy not heat.
CO2 doesn't cause warming, get that in to you head... your picture shows it, maths proves.

@Log Man: are you starting to understand? ...being concerned about CO2 is like being concerned about a scratch on your bonnet, when your car is going to the wreckers, and then some bottom feeders says "Hey log man, you need to get that scratched repaired it's only gona cost $10 a week [}:)]"

Knew this guy once and he was a bit of a hero and one day we were doing mushies and he'd never done anything like it before but he drank a lot of beer and he said something along the lines of "what? half a cup?" and no matter how much we warned him he still managed to sneak in like three cups and he spent the next 12 hours hiding under a blanket.

It's powerful stuff.

This tax will steal billions of man hours from the people.
It will go to fund the UN (indirectly).

They tried to sneak it in globally before, now the tactic is to sneak it in country buy country and then unite the schemes under central control in the near future.

As Australians we live very well, and the plan is to change that, by deception.

Is it rue that 10% of the Carbon Dioxide tax goes to the UN?
If that is true I and many others I suspect will be outraged.
Maybe some of our learned left leaning friends will know the answer

Moon has no atmosphere, hence it has wildly fluctuating temperatures.
Mars has little atmosphere and is further out, hence fluctuating temperatures and bloody freezing.

The point is, none of this is really rocket science, you can understand the basic mechanisms. We also have examples of what happens with lots of greenhouse gasses (Venus) and no greenhouse gasses (Moon/Mars).

As for it being hotter in the past, yes it was, would you like to live in that climate? I would suspect not. The Earth would carry on, but many species would die and we'd make life much harder for ourselves.

Years ago sunbathing was a popular and white skin exposed on the surface of the earth due to albedo effect radiate all sun energy back to the cosmos.
Conclusion.
1. Global warming is effect of the cancer scare propaganda. Less people on the beaches.
2. Sun cream Effect- instead of reflecting high energy actually absorbs all. Lets rise taxes on sunscream its effect is 1580 x higher then CO2 !!

Wait, wait... so CO2 being a greenhouse gas is too hard to comprehend, but the UN secretly stealing our money....

OMG, I understand greenhouse effects I'm trying to lead people who can't seem to understand simple equations to the truth.

We give the UN money, they don't need to steal... no secret, it's in the budget!

I give up. Yup the tax is gona help the planet, log man you're right man I've seen the light.

Yeah once again you're right Trant we need more salt.
Hey I think we should add some sodium to our fresh water, that way we can have gatoraid on tap. Woohoo.
