Glass Laminating

I need advice how to laminate flat sheet with fiberglass.

There are 3 sheets 25 mm honeycomb already joined so total size is 2.4m x 3.6m.

I am just in the process of covering whole surface with double glass canvas and epoxy but I am afraid that bubbles still
appear beside intensive rolling over with flat aluminum roller.

Should I cover whole surface with plastic sheet and vacuum it or apply something on top ?

I am afraid that bubbles could create the weak points later and cause spot de- lamination.

If too late save that one at least next time I will be better informed.

Looks to me as if you haven't got enough resin on that.
I'd pour the resin directly onto the cloth and use a squeegee instead of a roller, to spread the resin around.

You could be right, but I wanted to avoid filling honeycomb with resin.
I am afraid that resin will leak into cells and fill it.

Quality honeycomb should allow to penetrate , but that cheaper version from Nuplex may leak.

This way I need apply 3 layers of epoxy but only one fiber matte ( every few hours).

This will be my new deck for my electric catamaran

roll out glass on a table covered in plastic sheet (taught - no wrinkles)

Pour on resin and squeegee (that should = minimum resin and no air bubbles)

Lay honeycomb on top of wet-out glass and weigh down with a sheet of 5 ply or MDF so it is contacting the glass well everywhere.
There ya go, no resin dribbling into cells.

Then repeat with other side.

Thanks , I need to do one more for roofing , so I could try this method.
I need to make very big table I think two yellow tongue flooring panes should be enough.

Good post Skid, That reminds me that I need to cover now epoxy laminate with paint to protect from UV.

What can I use ? Can I use gel coat ? I heard that shouldn't be used over epoxy resin. That I should use only epoxy paint. Is it true?

I think he is planning on heading up to Hamilton Yacht Club to give Mr Oatley a few pointers in the right direction regarding Catamaran design and build

I find macros style hard to read, I missed his second post.

He must be a miget if he thinks that is going to work!

asking all these before you started with very expensive materials would be a thought.

You only have to stop the UV getting thru the first micron to protect all the stuff below. So black pigment in the first pour of resin (in my sequence above) would have done it. Or a UV tolerant resin.
Or even better, UV tolerant resin, with pigment AND then paint it afterwards with a 2K polyurethane (colour not clear)

(BTW is it nomex or alum honeycomb and what did it cost?)

You can use 2 pack urethane, straight over the top of epoxy, but don't use polyester unless the epoxy is completely cured, ie a couple of days at 60c or a couple of weeks at 25c.

No , material is very cheap and the polyethylene honeycomb sheet cost only $90 each. I used 3x.
I expect that now this 20mm ( not 25mm as I measured today) + 2 + 2 mm laminate will be safe to walk on with just few supporting beams.
I will check the weight soon but the whole thing should be now 30 to 40 kg only.
Now to finish deck, I think , around edges put 25mm / 1.6mm aluminum channel that will be nicely glued to the sheet.

ok. If I will use now 2 pack urethane paint, white, can I add something to make the surface as gripy/ non slippery as possible but not too abrasive also ?
Can I apply this urethane with roller or I need to spray it ?
