Anyone had any experience with these? Particularly the V200 dual cab? Im seeing a lot around and i believe Rio are buying them now?

Been looking at a 4wd ute sometime in the near future but people are asking crack prices for 2nd hand high km hiluxs / navaras / rangers etc. Top of the range GW is $25k drive away. Sub 20k for second hand 2012 so resale is shocking .

It's not going to be a daily driver but something 2nd hand but newer than 2010, reliable, something i can take light 4wding (beaches, dunes etc) and throw gear in the back without worrying about scratches and stuff. Better suspension / tyres for sure

Even though its china made and cheap they cant be that bad right? 105kw and 310nm worries me a little but a tune and breathing mods might help it out but then again, even 150-200kw is still going to be a slug

fuel guzzling piece of crap. my offsider has one and i wouldnt go near it.
spends too much time in for repairs and got stiffed with the warranty as well.
grab an older hilux or triton instead if thats all its going to be used for.

clive palmer bought a heap to use as fleet vehicles for his yabulu nickel plant operation in townsville. Pieces of crap.

My question is why would you bother when you can get a new dual cab deisel triton for $31 drive away with a 5/10 year warranty. if you can't afford that bit extra then you might have to go second hand quality over new POS

had one for two years, no issues , had the 2.8 diesel, had to tune it cause no power whatsoever, blessed thing would blow huge clouds of smoke after tuning but more hp.

wouldn't recommend though as a Ranger was at the same price with just a little less fancy equipment.

One day the clutch stayed engaged while I was going through a drive thru, sold it next week.

Whatever you say about the cars, the Chinese are by far the leading builder of roads on the planet. There was a TV show on the way people have changed the surface of the planet. Of the 100 highest road bridges in the world, across gorges etc, 50 of them are in China. All built in the last 10 years!

It funny isn't it how we forget.

I remember the Mitsubishi add campaign "Please Consider".

Everyone use to say Japanese piece of crap, blah blah blah.

Fast forward a few years and now Toyota and Mitsubishi are totally accepted here in Australia.

Same sort of thing happened more recently with Hyundai, now much more accepted than in the past.

Give it time and the same thing will happen with Great Wall. They will just get better and better and bigger and bigger.

Yes they can and are.
You'd be better off with a 10 year old Hilux than one of these pieces of snot.

Hi, I looked at the great wall a couple of years ago and then they did not have any rust protection and the petrol motor wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, I asked the salesman if we could take it off road to determine its 4wd capabilities and he would only let me drive it over a raise gutter so that put me off, I bought one of the glx tritons for 31000 at the start of the year and put a canopy so I could lock up my kite gear plus added a bullbar on it, and I couldnt be happier much better to spend the extra cash

Cheers boys!

I've had a look on car sales and it appears the tritons are a better buy than the rest. At least for the money.

Gone are the days when i'll buy new and then spend more money improving it so i should be able to pick up an 11/12 triton with less than 60kms for a reasonable price. Ideally something which someone else has fitted with 4wd gear

I always remember what I was told when I was buying my first car.

If it's cheap there is a reason for it! Seems like The Great Wall forgets to include some basic items us Aussies expect.

I'm looking myself after a guy wandered in a few weeks ago & simply stated that he wanted to by my '03 Hilux SR5. Problem is, I can't find a more recent version of what I've got anywhere (might need to keep it!).

As for finding something already kitted-up - be careful as the good ones don't come up for sale. Generally the ones with all the 4wd extras have been used & abused - I reckon especially in the West!

the first 3 years of them, the chinese marvellously used ASBESTOS for all the gaskets.
****ing brilliant idea hey !

haven't driven one, but they look and sound like the biggest pieces of dog **** to every grace our roads.

imop - they should get everyone of those **** cars, and send them back to china.

What is the problem with gaskets containing asbestos? Unless one is in the habit of pulling heads off motors, then grinding the gaskets up and breathing in the dust, asbestos in a gasket should be pretty safe. There is a massive scare campaign over asbestos directed and funded by big trade unions for political purposes. Anyway I see a fair few of these GW utes around and they seem okay. Never seen one broken down on the side of the road.

It comes down to two factors, finances and snobbery. Some people won't be able to overcome their sensibilities to own a Chinese car even when it can do everything a Japanese alternative can do at a cheaper price.

The irony of all the anti Chinese engineering posts on the interweb is 99.9% of them are made on devices engineered and manufactured in China.

my uncle died of mesothelioma. That **** is everywhere, so many houses still have it. It will be 50 maybe 100 years
before we rid the world of it all.
The less of that ****, in this world, the better.

The comment above is quite offensive to me and many other people, as the use of any Asbestos in any product is wrong, it is not only the final product that is the problem, also the mining, use and then disposal (especially building materials)

Asbestos KILLS and will continue to do so for many years.

edit
Yes madsailor, as did my uncle.

Have a GW, had it for 4 years (just about) never missed a bit, love it!
Have a Holden Cruze (company car) had it for 3 years has been at the garage about 6 times, the paint is fading and it is a heap of crap!
Maybe lucky with one and unlucky with the other!
In 10 years every one will winge about the new Indian imports calling it crap etc.....! The chinese cars will be well in Australia as the Japs did.

A mate brought a new 4x4 GW 4 months ago. Although never driven I have been a passenger. I found it quiet nice, had plenty of power "for what it is" managed to step it out in the dry ok'ish. Lots of room inside. Could not say a bad thing about it. As a young tradesman it suites his needs perfectly. I don't understand why every car has to have heaps of power. As spoken you pay for what you get.. Reading a review is not forming your own opinion, take one out for a test drive you might be surprised.

Our local dealer willmonly do warranty work on vehicles He's sold. If you bought elsewhere take it there.
He hates them but continues to sell them knowing people will come back looking for their next vehicle.
Our local hire car companies all hire fleets to minesites, fleets of Kias ,hyundais, toyotas, but not nissans or great walls, or holdens or fords

You can call me whatever you like but it doesn't change the fact the ACTU and some of its affiliated trade unions have run a massive anti asbestos campaign.

www.australianunions.org.au/campaigns

www.actu.org.au/Media/Mediareleases/ACTUwelcomesmorefundingtotackleasbestos.aspx

This campaign has a political as well as health aspect; ie trying to keep trade unions relevant for Australian workers.
