i play 4 and 5 string G&L Basses (L2000 & L2500).
I have an Ampeg 500W solid state bass amp and avalon U5 Preamp.
Been playing for 16 years.
Made a few of my own basses too check out the pix below...
inspriations are les calypool, geddy lee, rex horan, jaco pastorius, cliff burton, robert trujillo.
have home studio which i make some tunes in my (rare) spare time...
am waiting for the mid life crisis before i join a real band, either that or a real GFC that requires me to sing for my supper or some tragic acident that stops me from windsurfing...

Mmmm.. Ampeg with an 8 x 10 cab. If that doesn't get you chubbied up then you need a soul transplant.

Rex Horan! Nice to see his name up there with the other influences. Great guy and unreal player. Any idea where he is at these days? Last saw/worked with him over a decade ago now.

Nice work on the bass building BTW.

4 x 10 = a half mongrel

Man Rex would have been an ace teacher to have. Was that privately or through WAAPA? Don't spose he worded you up on megaphone technique also.

yeah he was kick-ass!!
i used to get lessons at his place in 1992/3 in swanbourne which is now several meters of fresh air above the road that goes from the army barracks to cottesloe... and later in the art deco love building near Kings Park.

the mighty megaphone vocals, ...so avant garde...
cos he's a fat man,
he's doing what he can,
and when the foot goes down,
you know he's back in town!

I have been playin and singing for about 30 years. Had too many guitars to list but now days i only have 3.A 12 string maton acoutis electric cutaway, a 6 string maton cutaway and a really nice spanish guitar for a bit of finger picking every now and then. Can't read a note of music but can pretty much play anything i hear. I enjoy blues and rock the most and have develop a kind of R&B progression style of playing which means you can sound like 3 guitars kind of . Bit of bass line some rythm and th odd lick coming through very laid back kind of style.
Recently bought a digitech vocalizer 2 ,awsome fun 2 lines of harmony backup a tuned to the chords you are playing on your guitar. Awsome for some of the old stones numbers or sound like the eagles on your own. For those who struggle with key ....this thing actually corrects that as well. Makes you sound like a professional.
I use a mixer and a DB powered speaker opera series.
A good site fopr lessons is Gibson.com.
Favourite guitarist Stevie Ray and Bonnie Rait.Check out th road trip DVD

Hey Hardie,

I started at age 16, and put the guitar away at 25 - just got busy. it is easy to lose your way. Anyway, i saw Tommy Emmanuel play in my hometown in 2005 - anyone who has seen him play fingerstyle accoustic will know what i am talking about.........amazing. Right there, i bought an acoustic and started teaching myself figure style. Haven't looked back in 5 years, although my practise waxes and wanes - until now - I am trying a new structured schedule.

Guitar I play: Gibson J45
Strings: Elixir Nanoweb - sound great for coated strings, can last for 6 months even with the toxic sweat that pours from my hands.
guitar in storage: Fender Stratocaster Deluxe with Lace Sensor Pickups, 1990, sunburst - amp Fender 85, also in storage - i am all acoustic now.
Self rating: love playing in the solace of my guitar room, and with friends, but not in front of crowds, dont have the confidence in my ability

I cant read music, but have put together about 5 fingerstyle tunes that are my own. I learn from TAB and ear. Have just started a regime of getting up each morning and I practise for 40 minutes on a piece I am trying to learn before i head off to work. I bought a Yamaha silent guitar for my early morning practise so i dont piss the neighbours off.

Anyone interested in fingerstyle guitar, check out some of our top aussie finger stylists on you tube: Kieran Murphy, Michael Fix, Joe Robinson, and of course Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy is coming to Aus again V.Soon, so if you get a chance, check him out, you wont believe he is a one man band! Cheers, Adam

Soundgarden have some amazing droning tunings too. From memory much of the SUPERUNKNOWN album is in Dropped D, D and C. Let me know if you need tabs to anything off this album - you would probably like it considering the music you are learning.

I started playing with a couple of school mates at 16 and we used to teach each other what we learnt and sometimes jam with others and it's always better when someone pulls out the drums.
I don't know anyone here who plays any more so lost interest and haven't played in years. Still have a Fender Strat, an old Italian made Eko solid top 12 string and Eko 6 string.
Liked playing SRV, Midnight oil, ACDC, Dire Straights, Pink Floyd and of course, Jimmy H, loved using the wah peddle.
Ah, what the hell, I've got two minutes to kill, might go and strum a cord for the first time in well over 5 years, I think I still remember what a C looks like.
