late eighties was my first windsurfing trip to hawaii and i asked a taxi driver about problems with americas gun ownership.
his reply was you won't see any road rage or daytime street violence here because you never know who will have a gun on them!
i have been back most years and have still not seen anyone giving a stranger any lip for any reason let alone road rage.
unlike the gold coast where i witness road rage incidents and testosterone screaming matches on a weekly basis.
just an observation.
cool posters in shopping centers too!
Good catch there!
I know its for close quarters work, but the length of pull on that rifle is ridiculous too
Lachie- the M4 carbines come with collapsable stock (I think the one in the pic is all the way in)
It has a couple of benefits-
:close quarter work it is easier to use compared to a regular length M16 rifle.
:stock can be adjusted for different sized users
:when wearing a military issue kevlar flak jacket which has the thick ceramic chest plate, you need the shortest setting on the stock or you cant shoulder the carbine.
the last is one of the reasons some of our diggers are using the US manufactured M4 carbines instead of the Aussie built F88 Austyere bullpup carbine of the same calibre
p.s. someone needs to tell the national guardsman in the picture that his carbine might work better if it was loaded......
Thanks SN, yeah I know it was a collapsable stock. Just making a joke
I don't think it a concious fear, just as you don't fear bikies or police on the road but still wouldn't go giving them the finger Some actions may have negative consequences
i dunno about fear in hawaii, more about chill out.
unless it's about dropping in or gybing in front of someone in the maui slalom series, now that can be a slanging match!
While I think the news piece is a bit sensationalist (isn't all the news), I hope Americans watching see that they have to fight hard to keep their rights and fight rediculous laws. Don't be lax though, have a go at reforming to address issues like increasing safety (as you have been, not that the media report it here) but don't let the government get away with rubbish like they did here.
We didn't and see where it has left us, unable to access normal hunting/target firearms (don't let anyone tell you that an U/O shotgun is anywhere near as good a hunting firearm as pumps/semis, and its nothing to do with the number of shots).
Hope this isn't regarded as hijacking, but there are some good points he brings up about Americans, and his views on Aus gun law are pretty similar to myself and other firearm owners I've spoken with.
Just wondering; is anyone who is seriously into guns (ie: reload own ammunition, find an interst in their design, enjoy getting out and using them) classed as a 'gun nut'?
Terrible news in the above link, hope they find out what happened and work to prevent further such attacks.
So does that mean you believe the military isn't a worthwhile/worthy direction for someone to go as a career?
BTW its the National Guard, not exactly the army/airforce/navy they're talking about...
Im trying to think of the last time I saw an Ad poster that didn't prey on the weakness of a target audience. Just look at the cosmtics crap they publish, or car ads
