Researchers at the University of Western Australia are developing a wet suit that they hope will make surfers unattractive to sharks.

Much better idea than any stupid shark net

Taking the der and dum out of der dum, der dum, der dum etc etc etc.

I am afraid that if that is true seal could be already painted in all shades of red - to advertise poison seal, dragon fish patter or grey to disappear completely.
Unless they didn't have evolution al time to develop that skills.
On another time octopus had and still don't know how effective it is since that is the favourite snack.
Anyway any innovation welcome if works
Much better could be suit imitating their own species, specifically opposite gender, to provoke less aggressive behaviour, unless they are cannibals
The wost of all could be Mantis Shark that f** you first then eat

Bestiality expert Cory Bernardi has nick-named the wet suit the "smashed crab", because it will make surfers less attractive to sharks. However, I am not sure that sharks see smashed crabs in the same way as humans.

from the article...

The research team from UWA has found that sharks are highly visual animals but are probably colour blind.

They say the animals see colours in shades of grey, the same way as humans watch a black and white film.

I'm guessing 50.

ummmmm.......i think they are kind of forgetting about the sharks highly functional senses. Being able to detect electrical pulses, heart beats and the ability to smell you pissing your pants in fear from quite some distance.
Yeah,nah...thats not going to work.

Brilliance! Raped by a Great White Shark, is that considered less agressive than being chewed by one

I think we credit them with to much intelligence they have evolved to do 3 things eat, breed and swim they bite surf skis, dive cages, outboards and absolutely smash foam cutouts of seals towed behind boats.
I think its funny when people argue that humans arent part of the diet or food chain we are made of meat after all

Such a disappointing topic.

I was hoping there was a video of Susie Mai and some friends doing a follow up wetsuit shoot.

Bugger, so Sharks do not see colours??

We where working on the theory that bright colours would make a surfer look poisonous, as in many reef creatures

Hence our new 2013 Flux wetsuit

i like how the article refers to imitating sea snakes as a potential way to repel sharks.
tiger sharks eat sea snakes faster than gina reinhart eats a burger.
