Most expensive place in the world to live gets you:
-Worst traffic
-Most expensive tolls in the world, and they're every where... $2.50 + $.55 cos your tag isn't going to work just to use a farking ramp.
-Crap hospitals
-3rd world infrastructure
-REALLY bad public transport
-$5/hr parking at the beach
-An army of parking rangers with fine quotas
-4,600,000,000 people (antisocial crowds of retards every where you go)
-Hands down the most inept government any populace has ever had to endure
-Cops hiding in the bushes with radar guns

Seriously I can't think of anything good Sydney has that another city doesn't offer... unless we include 1 Opera house only the rich can afford to use, and a congested iron bridge you have to pay $4 to cross.

I think its pretty good to fly in, blow a few days looking around at all the sights, and then return to the dreary west

You're right the views not bad, with the boats in the harbour, the golf course, urban sprawl... wait that's bad... so the harbour from the air is good.

What sights? The Opera house? Anything else will give you sore eyes.

Yes - I'll never forget the first time I jumped on the manly ferry ( and that sideways swell half way across ) and that beautiful bay outlook when you jump off the ferry at manly.... and the big well priced feed at the Leagues Club and excellent beer prices and nice waitresses to look at

You haven't been here in a while, right? Sydney prior to 2004 was awesome, now it's just crowds, traffic, fines, bus lanes, cycle lanes (nobody use) and tolls everywhere.

What you have to pay to look at the waitresses now?

No tolls yet in WA ... I did say yet everything else sounds similar fly

You seem to be slightly mis-informed on a few things.

A $2.50 toll is not very common - most of them are significantly more than that - sometimes double. $5 an hour parking at Bondi or Manly is a price from years ago...its much more now Hell spend over 2 hrs in an inner city parking building Mon - Fri and it can cost you over $50! But if you do an early bird and stay all day can get away with $30.

The best thing about Sydney is the F3 as you head north. I live 94km north of Sydney and the F3 makes it all bearable. A beautiful piece of road except when there is an accident - hold ups have been known to last 10 hrs! They have tried to instigate a full lane sharing setup now but it is yet to be fully tested under pressure since it was finished. I hope it works next time

I spent 10 yrs living in Manly and had a blast.....you just need to like crowds and have a reasonable income. Otherwise its an absolute prick of a place. In terms of global big cities its hard to find one that compares re location, beaches, weather, waves, career opportunities etc Some big problems for sure but try living in London - no after work or pre work surf. There are few places that can give you all the upside of Sydney. Having said that I am glad to be out

Sydney has 3 redeeming features:
1. The road north
2. The road south
3. The road west.

That's not what they're claiming today...

Woo hoo, more crowds and overpriced events... which reminds me; Sydney, and Australia in general have the most expensive social events in the world, from 2-7x more expensive than Europe and the US.

Hmmm, i was born in the middle east, egypt to be exact. quite frankly every aussie city is awesome compared to pretty much anywhere else, even crowded old Sydney. Its ok to have a bit of a whinge but seriously even crapsville australia is better than 99 percent of the rest of the world.

For one thing, there are plenty of jobs, well, relatively so.

There being plenty of jobs means that there are also plenty of people, and sometimes too many. Of course, this then means high prices and people jam packed. (Don't ask my why WA house prices are higher than Sydney, when they have a heck of a lot more available land)

In my experience, in IT, work is easier to find in Sydney than in Melbourne or Canberra, so there is an upside. If you want a better lifestyle move to Wollongong or Newcastle, but be prepared for less variety of jobs being available.

A crowd of around 300,000 and one copper gets heavy handed after maybe a night of putting up with who knows what and has a brain snap and now people are calling for his head. Give the copper a break, even the victim seems to be handling it better than the "media driven" do gooders.

There's plenty of good points as others raised, especially don't forget there's bloody good food too. I grew up and got smart and left, now I just come to visit and play.

So sure Sydeny comes with the obvious -ives but there are plenty of gems as well if you have the right attitude. I'd let you in on them but then every other one of the +4mill will join in too and then the gems will be **** too.[}:)] catch 22 eh!

NSW, Fly? The Victorian Premier quit today.

Isn't there a large enquiry at the moment going on into a few ministers of the previous government? The gallery has been packed-out every day, such is the interest in this.
