Knight rider...kid at school used to get beaten up by the nelson type bully because he had to go to bed and never knew what we were all talking about. HAR HAR
Geeez! What's all this TV stuff?
I grew up listenning to "Captain Miracle" on the radio. (intrepid space traveller who used to roam the galaxy with his brave crew, fighting evil aliens. )
I do remember the mousketeers when TV came out though. I was madly in love with Annette Pinch a fellow,.. (or something like that.)
T.V. came to eastern Australia in 1956. It may have taken a little longer to get to W.A.
I am sure Perth back then would have been just like Brisbane, a large country town.
In 1960 when I was living at Chermside, which was about 2 miles short of the tram terminus, we still had no sewerage on our 32 perch block and used a bomb box dunny out in the back yard with the customary choco vine and nasturtiums growing around it. The choco were really bland when boiled and served as an accompaniement to the corned beef and white sauce with mashed spud, carrots and peas but I loved sucking those nasturtium flowers for their nectar.
I would walk the mile and a half home from school so that I could spend the thrupenny tram fare I had been given on hot chips rolled up in news paper. I am sure the lead from the news print that I ingested has contributed to the sharpness of my memory. Sometimes I would buy cobbers or freckles instead of chips. Sherbets were good too.
On arriving home there would be the usual Monte Carlo biscuits and glass of milk or if I was lucky, a Vanilla slice and Aktavite in my milk. Then it would be straight to the lounge room, switch on the valve radio and tune it in to The Adventures of Smokey Dawson and his Pal Jingles. Google that and see what you come up with.
Dinner followed at around 6:30, an hour of home work then bed preceeded by a dessert spoonful of malt and cod liver oil.
Gawd I'd love to be back there now.
