Ok - was a little ordinary this morning, but the wife was at work and the son still asleep so I went to the local beachie to see if I could score a few...

Anywho, the waves were not that big and certainly lacking power, but I still managed to crack the nose/rail on my 3wk old board (late BH take off) must have hit the sand, as no other board involved. Damage was worse than I expected for an epoxy - $55 and a week wait quoted... fine - no problem.

Main pisser was that I did a U-ey at the lights to get to the surf shop and got pinged... $100 and 2 demerits... no chit chat or warning - just out with the pad...

Oh well... what's done is done...

Ouch!

Epoxy is a bitch to fix, I tried to do a bit of work to my FireWire and I couldnt get the resin to stick so I just put some tape on it

Bloody fines, makes it an expensive surf session

Feel your pain mate, snapped my tufflite completely in half on Sunday.

Anyone got an opinion on fixing a total snap on a tufflite? Is it worth doing or will it always be a weak spot? It's an oldish board but i'd still prefer to get it fixed.

Tufflites are a bugger to fix and I would think that it would be a shizzen load heavier once it was repaired. Was it a great board or just a good one?

Sh!t - I've never heard of that happening... I guess they are that bit more rigid...

Not sure where you are, but P Co and Katana are (WA) shapers/repairers who post on here...

Probably falls into the good rather than great category Doggie (5 year old Webber Afterburner) but after all the hammerings it's taken over the years I feel like it deserves better than to go out to a shoulder high dumper at Triggs!

Pretty similar circumstances to GPA: late take off, small drop, nose hit the sand with all my weight on the front foot.

I'll take in for someone to look at but if it's going to f*ck up the weight or strength I'll give it a miss. Already pre-warned the wife that it could justify a new purchase.

Yeah - that's exactly how it happened... although it looks like it hit another board - but no one was close enough...

And I agree with Doggie - after that many miles it's time for a new board... I'd repair a snap on a near new board, but not one that old... unless it was an all time favorite IMHO.

Sounds like my last weekend...

Snapped my board in half one day, got a new board (which is awesome ) the next day. Come back from the first surf on the new ride, wallet and iPod nicked.

Teaspoon of cement, surfers?

Try 2x $600 masts and $300 in sail repairs in a week, from 2 good rinsings.

OK seriously condolences, always hurts more when it is a 3 week old board GPA

$100 from The Cops... reminds me of that morning I was speeding through the ACT on the way to the snow.

Circa 1999, just prior to the onslaught of High-Vis clothing... 7am, overcast sky, bloody cold, The Copper has his car completely stashed out of sight behind some really bushy median strip shrubs and trees. He pinged me on the hand held radar way back... He was wearing his Dark Blue Leather Jacket, dark pants, black shoes, dark leather gloves, and dark hat, and he's all but camouflage and blending in with the dark blue road! He stepped out onto the road to signal for me to stop, I was probably looking elsewhere at the scenery, and damn near ran him over! He had to run off the road to avoid me hitting him! I jammed on the brakes pretty hard, but it was pretty clear to both of us that he was within my braking distance!

Best part, I got off the fine, because the fines had just gone up that weekend, and he didn't have the correct fine book. He took my details. I heard later that the fines needed to be served on the spot, and I got off on a technicality I think.

Why can't you do a u-turn at the lights? Was there a sign saying no u-turn?

No - there was no sign - I checked... and that's what I told the Cop.

Apparently, unless there is a sign saying U-turn Permitted, it is illegal to do a U-ey at any intersection controlled by traffic lights.

When I told my wife she went "Duh... everybody knows that"... well, I didn't.

Squiddy,
I know in Queensland unless it's signed, U-turns at lights are illegal. Don't know about WA though.

I still remember asking my instructor 20 years ago. He said "what do you think?"

Hard to know what's the go state to state. S'pose I could look it up easy enough but things change all the time. The law and road rules should be the same for the whole country.

About license, was at greenwood BP last week and that brand new Hyunday i45 stop next to me with 2 extremely beaut African chicks in it (jaw dropping sexy)....one came out and asked me how do you use the pump as they just got the car and it was the first time they were refuelling a car????? In Eritrea apparently they do it for you.... chit chatted a bit and then the chick told me they were studying here and she asked me if a license was needed to drive here! Were they cashed up bogans refugees???? Who cares the surely were eye candies!

U-turns at traffic lights has never changed in WA.
It is illegal to do so unless a sign says "U-turn permitted"

Says nothing about handbrake turns at traffic lights though...
