I got myself a helmet cam from Launch Helmet Cams (www.launchhelmetcams.com) and took it out for a spin with my kite buggy on the weekend (due to a lack of kitesurfable wind). 52.7kmh in this run, but managed 56+kmh later in the day (after the tape ran out).

Cool, nice flat beach you have there. What's the camera set up and launchcam model?

On that day, I just had the launchcam gaffa taped to the top of my helmet. I had the handycam and battery pack for the launchcam inside a protective 'shell' inside a backpack. The shell is just a couple of pieces of high density foam with cutouts to house the handycam and battery pack. Bungied together, it's almost indestructible!

The launchcam is the base model from the 'Team' range.

hi mrbonk,
good looking footage
just wondering what sort of video file you end up with, eg .avi? and how you edited it?
I got a oregan scientific helmet cam, takes ok movies, just need to adjust the horizon level right and will be sweet. i'm having trouble editing at the moment. the avi file doesnt want to go into sony vegas for some reason. I only get the audio and no video. I'm a begginer on these editing software. the file opens ok on windows movie maker
cheers

Wow, that looks great!! I've not seen kite buggying before.

You wouldn't be able to have too many of you on the beach at one time though, would you? Or can you still get good speed with the kite a lot higher?

The helmet cam feeds into my mini-DV handy-cam via the A/V port, then I use Vegas to capture it as an .avi file and edit it.

Does your Oregan Scientific cam record the footage itself? If so, you might need to check the codec being used.

You can't get as fast with the kite up high, plus you have much more chance of suffering the dreaded OBE (Out of Buggy Experience).

I've seen footage of large groups of guys in the UK all kite-buggying on the beach at once. Looks a bit hectic

yeah, it goes into a 2gb SD card on the camera
then you can plug this into the computer via usb or tv via a/v
I'm going to try the codecs settings see how that goes
thanks for the help
