Classic line:

Anyone who isn't minimising tax needs their head read, because as a government you are not spending it that well that we should be donating extra....... Hahah.

The other story I liked when Packer was in Vegas and got into a bit of banter with a rich texan oil Barron, the Texan was going on about how much he was worth and hangin Shiz on KP for being Aussie and thinking he wasnt that rich.

So packer asked him for a dollar value of how much he was worth.

The Texan replied 50 million.

Packer replied, I'll flip you for it.

Also a story he won 20 times at baccarat in a row betting $250,000 a hand.

My favorite ever Packer story was when I lived in England and worked for a Whitbread Pub. This story came through on the weekly newsletter talking about customer service. It was a classic.

Packer and a mate go into a pub order a pint each, he asks the publican if they could order a sandwich.

The publican goes 'Nah mate, the kitchen is shut'. Packer and his mate finish the pint and leave.

They walk into the pub a couple of doors up and ask the same thing, only this time the publican says 'yeah no worries, the kitchen is shut but if you guys can keep your eye on the bar for me for a minute I'll make it myself'.

Packer and his mate eat the sandwich and stay for a few pints. When it comes time to leave he hands over 2000 pounds and tells the publican thanks for his hospitality. If he promises to tell the pub up the road he should have made some sandwiches he can keep the money.

Love it.......

AAHHH...Packer TV,

It was either Kerry or his Dad that had a big win at the horse races, and got home that night and wanted to see the race again on telly.

Kerry (or Frank?) rang Channel 9 and ordered them to replay it before the news.

which they did.

then they got a call saying play it again- I was in the dunny.

so "due to popular demand" the saturday evening movie was interupted to replay a horse race!

There are so many urban legends kicking around about the Packers- but few of them are really legends-almost all of them are true!

World Series Cricket was born the same year as me, I was glued to the tv last night, I knew it was brought about by Packer but had no idea of the politics and rebellion within cricket that occurred for it to happen. Awesome bit of cricket history wrapped up in an aussie drama.

Arguably the man was a visionary back then, today he'd probably be called a bully (probably was then too )

Yep a good show,

Packers biography is a decent read, bit old now, you can probably get it for $5 in the bargain bin but well worth it.

Really enjoyed the show. Theres some pretty good Aussie TV about at the moment.

Loved they way they cast actors that actually look a bit like the players. When they were going around door knocking I could tell who it was going to be. Thats Thomo, Thats got to be Marshy. The bloke playing Greg Chappel's a dead ringer.

I think they had the whole Polo team in tow, or the rest of the team was due to show up. The 2nd place served food and piss all night, stayed open just for them... And why wouldn't you!? You're selling drinks and making money! Then they get a great tip at the end. I think it might have even been 10,000 quid!?

I seem to remember channel 9 had a comedy show years ago, hosted by some Sydney shock jock, Rudest home video's or something similar. 5 minutes into episode 1 Packer rings up and orders it pulled from the air immeadiatly. It was cut off air straight away.

Wish he was around and in charge when big brother first reared its ugly head.

Kerry Packer is a legend. Though it does help if you've got a sqillion dollars behind you to sling the crap back at the pollies.

A true legend, probably watched that no less than 20 times before.

Our society needs him back, hopefully james can step up to the plate although he seems to use a little bit more tact in getting things done.
