Whats with the growing popularity with bogan cars having the aussie flag hanging out of the car window on Australia Day
Anyone care to shed some light on this facination.
It is ironic that the most prominent thing on the painted people/clothing/flag is the Union Jack. After Bodyline I think that is a travesty. (I for one will never forget).
I'd like to just drop the Jack and have a blue flag with the southern cross.
That said, I recognise that we'll probably never agree - everyone has different tastes/opinion.
Sigh.
Don't exactly understand what is so "Redneck" about showing affection for our flag and what it represents. Maybe if more of us show some respect and be grateful for living in this country under the flag that we have then we might all be a bit happier.
I love the flag we have and i don't consider myself a "Redneck". Maybe you would prefer we all surrender our freedom and swap our flag for the Chinese one.
Pride is not nationalism.
This is the best place to be in the world, no shame in expressing the feeling - flags and all.
no its not so much about the flying of the flag its more about how early in the day you had your first alcoholic drink .How drunk yo got and how obnoxious you were
I find it strange how we get worried about an Aussie icon having a go with his "eat dick " campaign yet we seem OK with An american multinational that serves ordinary food hijacking the day for its own gains .
We Are Australian True Blue !
I for one want representation By OUR OWN flag, as distinguishable as the Canadians have.
We are unique and proudly Australians able to stand upright in this world, on our own terms, with respect of what and where we have been.
We are The Worlds Best collection of people [without the yobbos]
^ But I'm not sure I had anything to do with that. Nor did the 'rednecks'. Nor any of us. I was just born here; pure, total luck. Everything that is great about this country was because of somebody else.
What do I have to be proud about? I did jack-****.
Quick quiz: When is clean up Australia day?
I'd like to see it incorporated with Australia Day. It irks me no end to see the disrespect via litter, particularly smashed bottles, plus the fights, yobboisms and general anti-social goings-on on 26/1.
I don't attend the skyshows and similar events because it brings a tear to my eye.
Maybe that makes me un-Oztrayliun...
Ans: March 3
I stick two large flags on the front of my car; it allows me to go through red lights, and if I beep and flash my lights people get out of the way too... totally awesome for Sydney traffic when the wind comes through.
Draped in the flag with southern cross tatts n wearing FOWFull singlets then joining in cronulla riots TRUE BLUE!!! Makes ya proud dont it?
Here is a good low key way to start the ball rolling - lets start flying this at sporting events:
see www.ausflag.com.au/MediaAlert_Jan2013.asp for more info
Geez, I went to Bunnings on Oz day to get pool chlorine and most of the staff were draped in the Aussie flag and had free flags everywhere. It was bloody great to see.
What wasnt great to see was all the bogan wankers with 4x4 utes backed over fences, mostly smashed and stumbling around on public parks and reserves, doof doof music thumping and guys pissing in the bushes along with spewing and thinking thats Australia Day!!!
Bull****, its just an excuse to get belted and bleat on about being patriotic.
Aussie day should be about having fun and getting together with the family and friends and enjoying a nice day outside.
Sorry about the rant, my two bobs worth!!!
I spent nearly a year in the States & Brasil.
What you find there, is people are openly stoked to be of their country. No matter of their wealth or lack there of. Especially in Brasil. It was really refreshing to be a part of that for a while and made me always think how lucky I am as an Aussie.
It's good we have a day to celebrate that & I don't care what flag we have, the one we've got has a little history in it So What? Its a good thing. The more Aussie flags I see the better!
One Australia Day I laminated the words to "True Blue" by John Williamson and stuck them at each place on my outdoor table. Now THAT'S Australian.
I love the memory I have of my middle daughter a few months back playing with her Barbie doll. Barbie was crusing around in her pink car and my daughter was quietly singing "True Blue" under her breath whilst playing. We played this song heaps in the car!
