Anyone out there got humane suggestions for relocating / stopping possums from sitting in trees and crapping all over paths, driveway and cars???

Currently I am trying hosing them down several times a night, not sure how effective this will be in the long term.....

Supersoaker with vinegar works on cats, could be worth a go.

I pulled 8 possums from my neighbors roof in the space of 2 weeks.

You can get a Cat trap from the council (I borrowed one from a neighbor) use some apple in it as bait, tie it to one of the beams near an access point so they basically walk into it.

I released them all at the base of the same tree so they could pick each others scent up a couple of km's from home.

When you are certain that you have caught them all board up their access point to the roof, make sure you do a good job on it as they are clever destructive little feckers who can get in if there is any weakness in the barricade.

yes cut the tree down .if no
pop rivet a wide piece of tin around the tree so they can't climb up it
.They slide off ,well hopfully .It works with rats .and cats .good luck .

High wattage Sensor lights in the ceiling space work well, as they dislike the light

May work in the trees also but have not tried this

Good luck

Block up your roof space and any other place that they can live in, wrap the trees and remove any food sources (Bins). Brush tailed possums are hard work and relocation just kills about 90% of them and a new lot will just move in. Remove their house and food first

They are territorial, and if you move one out, and there are others around, another will move in.

You could try my approach, and make nest boxes for them and put them in places you prefer them to be (not that far away though). It doesn't get rid of them but it might make it better for you.

I am not sure how to control where they go though.

A mate of mine ran a 'possum solutions' company.... with great success.
What he used to do was put possum boxes in nearby trees, he then sealed up the roof space that the critters took over. EXCEPT for a single roof tile that allowed the entire possum family to leave at their own pace, he had some custom made exits that would fit into the open tile space a bit like a one way clear plastic cat door, this allowed them to leave but NOT return with their interest becoming the tree mounted possum boxes.
He had mounted micro switches on the possum trap doors that triggered a remote door bell that was left in the clients house, It made the client very happy to hear it ring, apparently the average number of possums per roof was 4-6 with one roof having 12.
After a couple of weeks he would come back re install the roof tile (charge the handsomely) and take the trap door to the next job.
