Hey guys,

Spearfishing is a sweet sport. I spear to feed my family when on holidays. I go out, shoot one or two resonable fish and come in again, fillet, fry and smile.

The beauty as others have said is being able to carefully target not just a species, but an individual fish. You can choose a healthy size and if you aim carefully, you can "stone" the fish with a single kill shot. The fish feels no pain and it doesn't pull the sharks so much. I always "Iki Jimi" my fish immediately just as soon as I get my hands in their gills and then bleed them straight away so as no meat is tainted from any adrenaline in the fish' body. It's more humane, and the meat tastes heaps better.

It's amazing how many fisho's don't do this and instead leave the fish to suffocate to death or bleed to death in a bucket. That's BS!

Occassionally you can shoot more than a nights dinner as you can see in the photo below. It weighed around 32 kilos and fed my family for more than a month. Really tired of Spanish after a month of it every other night. "Stoned" it in 15m of water just 3 metres below the surface, I didn't even need to dive for it. Not an ounce of flesh was wasted, 20 kilo's of quality meat!

I use a Rob Allen Green Handle 1400 with reel and 40m of line most of the time in open water and a Rob Allen Blue handle 1000 Sparid also with a reel. Both great guns and have brought home some serious fish. The family never goes hungry when camping and we save a bloody fortune on meat and poultry and eat super healthy.

Can't wait to go up north again and get my dive fix.

Nice one DM, looks like you know what your doing.
I've tried it and is not a case of shooting sitting ducks, to be successful you have to know your s#!t and I could never get close enough for such a trophy fish. If I'm after a feed, using a rod is so much easier and reliable, got this one last month off Rocko last month in my kayak but wouldn't have had the same luck with a gun, much harder spearfishing than is given credit for.
PS: The treble just fell out of his mouth, not foul hooked.

So instead of getting a shark shield i spent my cash on a dive watch. Advantage for a hooker and a watch is quite significant.
Dived for 5 years filled up tanks every second fought-night no ticket logs... Rejected by dive training for ear issues. Funny can fill tanks but not get PADI accreditation.

Point is i lost accreditation medical (ear problems) to dive to get a padi course dive shop didn't want to know me. I still dive.

I failed a medical. Im still ****en diving spent 300+hours underwater. Apparently im still incompetent according to PADI Go **** your tanks and your monkey training.

diving for crays yesterday . Plenty of cod. but what caught my eye was a prize King-fish chased after him for about 15 meters but just out of range Couldn't take a shot. . I don't shoot the cod They seem to own the reef. .Its like there patch i feel awful if i shot one.

The guys are right , spearfishing is a bonus and targets should be chosen wisely. Lets leave the cod to breed and take out some prize fish bro !!!
The cod seem to be apart of the infrastructure .

Choosing a game target is a wise decision once you nail it bring it to the surface pull the other divers in and move position to a different ground.

Hit the target fish towards he end of the dive.

Once you hit a substantial target in the water you want to surface as quick as possible move the dive to another spot.
If you nail aserious game target be aware that it will attract sharks.

Im a catch bag slut so i have a spear-gun and the cray bag WITH THE FREEDOM 7. I do not carry a cray loop but protect the catch. Ii will not engage a spear-gun unless its necessary.

The cod is a big fish but in my eyes its not worth spearing and moving position.

AKS, mac ,no-one there prize fish/crays ,The selection is attributable. to take the
executable decision to take a shot is admirable Could be underwater for hours.

Just remember spear-gun basic's ! Disarm it when getting on the boat don't pass it to someone armed on a boat.
Treat a spear-gun as if its going to discharge randomly at any time.
