I was a bit different: Ice T & Public Enemy (saw them at Thebarton Theatre in '92, first concert I went to) Ghetto Boys, KRS one, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, Run DMC, De la Soul.. also trance and drum n bass but no specific artists.
Patsy Biscoe goes off, jaming with H Bear and the Fat Cat. Man, the Pistols were fairy floss compared to the queen of the rated G mosh pit
Did anyone listen to Triple J's Hottest 100 of all time?
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana. I could have put my life savings on that one
RIP Curt Cobain.
Yep the Specials/Madness were in there for me. Still love em and so do my squids.
Lots and lots of U2's 1st 4 albulms on high rotation (spesh October and Unforgetable fire). Like every day at least twice for the whole albulm.. sad but true.
The Cure.
New Order. 'Lowlife' was my 1st NO albulm given to me on casstte by a hot chick 3 yrs older - intros don't get any better. Actually Blue Ruin's 'Such sweet thunder' was on the B side - pure Gold too!! Man she was a hotty with kn good toon sense! Still got the cassette and played it in a car with a cass deck a few weeks ago.
Blue Ruin (see above) A Melbourne dark blues/gothic band that (IMHO) made Nic Cave look and sound like the mulleted (now sanchezed) theatre crowd nong he is. SST is an awesome albulm recorded by Tony Cohen who features heavily in Long road to the top doco a few years back. I also aquired a taste for Gin after their 'Bad Gin' single and still love the band and the bevvy! Thank gawd i didn't follow the choice in pharmies and end up a smack head!!
Hoodoos Stoneage Romeos
The Cult
ABC - yep The lexicon of love is a pearler albulm with excellent string arrangements and very snappy/witty lyrics.
Painters and Dockers. Well who wouldn't love goin apesh!t in the crowd to Kill!Kill!Kill! and Nude school etc. 1st ever underage gig. Sandwiched into the Corner Hotel (Melb) between a dude with a 2 foot mowhawk and another dweeb wearing Raybans in a club at night!! You know it's the 80s at moments like that... Caught the last tram home on a school night and bolted 1 km to jump into bed fully clothed just as the folks pulled into the drive. Makes ya feel alive.
The Doors
Smidgeons of Dead Kennedys, Exploited and other punk nonsense. Just could never quite get past the super shabby sound quality (yeh I know - missing the point).
Clash.
Didn't mind a bit o' Chris Isaak's retro schtick ('Dancin' & 'Blue Hotel' etc) back then either. Feel like a blue rinse member now..
Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Pink Floyd - got into em more in late teens but even earlier couldn't ignore their toons.. still inspiring today.
Bob Marley.. can't believe I nearly forgot the doobie king. Must be memory loss?
Elvis and Neil fkn dimond ,now them fks make me wanna carve a wave up like ol danny boy standing on a hill blowin his pipes ,bill haley has just come on givin it the large so i am gonna do the teddy boy dance like its 19 fkn 79
