Sorry to hear about your mum passing away mate.
Sounds like you had a great upbringing - boats and van living - awesome!

Definitely agree about the population increasing... the crowds..... now we are marching towards 7 billion people!!!! Really trying to work on decreasing my hating..... but I really wish someone would invent some economic theory to take us away from the whole growth is good theory..... want more demand, have more people.... fk.... it worries me thinking about the younger generations.... is that a Gen X trait or do the boomers actually care too? Soz - bit of a generalization..... I just want to be proven wrong so I can look at the world with kinder eyes..... prove me wrong kids, prove - me - wrong...

They don't like me on my R1.

I used to have a 1998 R1 and a 2003 R1... best bike I've ever owned. Everyone nodded at me, even the Harley riders... I don't remember seeing those skeleton masks on them though.

Then I got the BMW K1300R... awesome bike except for crap engineering, after 600k's the engine started making a weird noise, the steering was crooked and it lent to the right!
Now I have XT1200Z, all good... a little slow though... it's like riding a Jeep.
....
Here's another change a notice... everyday I almost run over one of those dumb people seafever17's talking about, they wear some kind of white wire hanging from either side of their head.

I always try and do what's best for the planet, parents were hippies who lived in a camper van or boat and I grew up with recycled clothes.

That's Mum and I in the van... she pasted away in May .

Feel for you on your Mums passing mate

The majority of surf boards went from one off hand shaped works of art, to mass produced, machine carved, cheap finish yet actually expensive to buy crap.

well, i was 11 10 years ago, but

- computers, everywhere!!!
- EVERYONE has an iphone/ipod something in their damn ears everytime they're outside (I used to do it til a couple years back, now I want to interact with people..)
- people wants everything, and they feel like they deserve everything just because they are...breathing?
- no real education of the children... seriously, if your kid is yelling all the time, or finds it hilarious to destroy other people's stuff, a nice slap could help...
- I'm in a different country (born in Italy, and lived there 'til a couple months ago), so I guess it's even my fault if there are so much foreigners in Oz xD
- more things have become less important (and viceversa)
- less and less people is really happy, many just fill their homes with stuff to avoid asking themselves if they feel satisfied
- electronics costs waaaaaaaaaaaay less

to be continued.. xD

4. found a love of Jazz, vege gardening and now Bonsai

5. Perth has become more multicultural

6. Both Parents still alive and kicking

7. my friends are still my friends after 10 years

NEGATIVES

1. consumerism is up

2. suicide rate is increasing

3. Mental health funding remains inadequate

4. Chinese garlic

damn, you're right.. let's fix this!!

good things:

- Started Kiteboarding... still clumpsy, but I LOVE it (even if yesterday I spent 3 (literally) hours untangling lines I don't regret it)
- turned my life around A LOT
- learned to flair bartending (not a champion, but I'm gettin kinda good) and found the career I'm lookin for in life
- recorded a cd with an actual producer back in italy, and got in the top 10 young artist with my band (which I left to come here, but we had to pursue our dreams)
- improved my photoshop and started learning adobe after effects skills
- learned how to play guitar, drums and keyboards
- been at a Europe + Gotthard concert in Munchen (germany)
- saw 99% of europe's states (except greece and a couple of eastern states ) and iceland
- changed a lot of friends, but got some that still call me even if we are 16000 kms apart

to be continued

I'm surprised that no one has talked about the "social media" yet.
10 YEARS AGO:
- I had no mobile and the Internet home was on the phone landline (56k)....
- You had to wait for the 18h00 or the 22h00 newscast and/or the newspaper for you daily news.
- Your friends had to call you if they wanted to talk (my computer was to old for all the msn stuff...)

NOW:
- You can go on the Internet with your mobile phone.
- Everyone is connected via social media.
- Without "talking to people" you know that a high school friend got married, had a child...you even know what he looks like, just have to look at the 10 albums on Facebook.
- We don't need traditional media like we used to...
- The breaking news can come from anybody...we just need that everybody/nobody to "Tweet it" and share it with the rest of the World.
