cell standby voltage is 1/10th the stock ICS 4.0.4 value, and well the 9300 is more energy efficient than the 9200 anyway... and I guess you could also install a custom kernel and follow forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/guide-galaxy-s3-cpu-gpu-overclocking-t1827635

I'm not even updating to Jelly Bean cos I really doubt I'll get the same life.

FFS it is a PHONE. who cares and what does that even mean?

How sad when all you can think about is getting more than two days out of your phone (charge it every second night, who gives a fk??), and if you can get online anywhere anytime. A bit of time on the PC before and after work is enough for 9000 posts on seabreeze in 5 yrs lol.

Same as all the folk with $20K a.v systems who can't hear the difference - it is just keeping up with the Joneses. I'll stick with a phone and a PC thanks.

This is like a home handman having to have performance hammer - when he uses it one a month.

FFS people - it is phone

not the tools of your trade - a phone.

One reason why it is handy...

Went to see art of flight last year. Got to the cinemas a couple of mins before movie started, not expecting a lot of people... Anyways huge que of people waiting to see another movie. Quickly bought tickets online, ticket was a QR code displayed on screen of my phone, then walked straight into the movie.

Just one of the many reasons having a smart phone makes life easier...

FFS it's bloody English, you undervolt the damn phone so u don't have to spend so much time plugging the damn thing in.

Why don't you put in $10 of petrol and instead of filling your car up (or buy a Hybrid) to under stand the difference.

And I don't know any Jones but my AV system is perfectly harmonized with no standing waves... and it sounds AWESOME (after ~1 month tuning it).
I'm going to watch a movie now in full 1080p and DTS-HD MA glory.

Here so y'all don't feel left out you can watch it on youtube... Yeah, it has subtitles, but I've already seen everything without subtitles worth watching.

No, it is a tool of my trade. The jobs all come to me on the phone and then all the paper work (and signature) is done on the phone. It saves a lot of paper work.

^^^ maybe for you, but not for the 90% (plus?) of smart phone users. They just have to be "cool" and/or are social media addicts.

True, but when driving for an hour or two to work I also use it to play music or pod casts and also for navigation. As well as that it is often handy for Internet use when away from home. Unfortunately people can still contact me because it has a phone built in as well.

Why use a smart phone it much easier to grab a old phone , a GPS , calculator and 100 CDs .if you do have a smart phone ,get a docking station in your car and your phone sit where you can see it and charges as you drive , I don't think I've ever charged my phone in the house

I just noticed, because it's just a little pocket computer and I didn't think they'd catch up that fast, the benchmark results for the new iPhone.

Holy ****!

Most of us won't need a PC in two years time. Plug phone into monitor and keyboard. Take supercomputer everywhere in pocket. Waste on social media.

www.redmondpie.com/new-benchmark-shows-iphone-5-processor-clocked-at-1.3ghz-faster-than-previously-reported/

...wait, wait ...that article states that Android apps run on a virtual machine? Really? How clunky.

My work computer is a laptop & docking station (keyboard & mouse)...if a tablet or smart phone had the capacity or could handle 3d rendering for my work, I'd simply have a phone & a dock at work & one at home. I still think we're a few years away, but surprised if we have to wait a decade. I could possibly run older version of the software, but as the PCs get more powerful, the software requires more grunt.

No I will never have one. I completely fail to see the point, I have never had a need for the internet in my pocket all day and doubt I ever will.

I find it interesting that we spent years developing standards so everyone can look at everything on the internet on Mac or PC with a handful of different OS and browsers. Everything works on you computer.

Look at Laurie's latest upgrade and all the different posts about some things not working on different phones. Must be a nightmare to try and make a workable site nowadays. Seems a bit dumb to step back to 1987 where nothing was compatible, just so people can spend all day looking at 'stuff'

Not going to get into the argument about good v bad...all I know is life in general in early 90's was great without any portable phones...you finished work at x oclock and were uncontacteable until you came back the next business day.

However, now work in IT and unfortunately 7 x 24 is the norm (oncall etc)...Sad but it pays the bills..but on a +ve I can arrange to nick out for 2 hours here and there as WFH when the surf (and in future) wind is up...just come back later and do work stuff...i.e not a 9-5'er ....can be working at 2am if called.

Anyhooo...re apps etc.....A lot of Forums using a more standard but less "colourful" than seabreeze forum use an app called TAPATALK....its great for on the go communication (if thats your thing)

On a recent trip paragliding trip in India I put a cheap Indian pre-paid sim in the iPhone.

- kept in touch with the folks at home for $1 for 10 minutes instead of $5 a minute with global roaming. They could used Find My iPhone to locate me.

- checked in with the crew at the end of the day to let them know I was ok. Priceless.

- chased up cancelled airline tickets

- booked a hotel room and confirmed discounted rate.

- used mapping to navigate a taxi to the hotel in Delhi after a 12 hour taxi ride

- used mapping to take myself exploring and finding all the places I missed last time, because the taxi drivers always kidnap you and take you to emporium, and got myself back to the hotel without drama.

- plug into the USB on the plane for my own music and videos on the flight

Add to that checking weather stations and radar and forecasts etc. Listening to podcasts and watching movies (hooked into the tv), having about half my music collection on hand at all times.

Reading the newspaper on the bog, checking out the forums, seeing what crap you wankers are going on about ....

As a new Seabreeze forumite I am surprised at the number of religious debates. Naish is a legend or not. Smart phone is a legend or not. Listen guys guess what? You're all individuals! You will all stand out in a crowd (except for the funny looking one down the very back)! You will not all love Macs or Windows! You will not all love trolls! You are not the Messiah!!

Sheesh the guy's happy with his phone, GREAT!

You will have to get used to it mate. Egotism and argument is what powers this site.

Sad but true. Some here refer to it as the online pub.

Actually still thinking about this.

Mine is used as

1.phone for work and social
2.IM/SMS for when I need someones address or something I cant be arsed writing down or dont have a pen..even sent photos to tradesmen to get quotes over the phone.
3.work and social contacts/emails
4.Alarm clock
5.Surf/weather reports
6.Music machine
7.Social media of varying types
8.McGoogler to settle an argument
9.Cheat at Trivia (kidding I dont play trivia)
10.Words with friends remotely (like Scrabble)
11.Child minder when I am having drinkies on a Sat arvo with my MTB mates and 7 YO shadow is bored
12.Speedometer/GPS etc for tracking running/cycling
13.Navman for driving...use the voice so dont need to look at it
14.photography...any time I need to take a photo it works "reasonably well" same for video
15.My ATM/bank
16. Notetaker
17.Used it to communicate with my friends in JAVA (the country not the computer language) via a speak and translate both ways ap
18.Used for several months before to learn basic Indospeak
19.A little bit of reading when bored...reading the old man and the sea ATM
20.Calculate postage rates
21.Measure something/get a level
22.pay bills
23.Watch live surfing contests
24.used it to learn different fishing knots
25. Etickets for concerts..save on paper and mailing costs.
26. "I really like that song..what was it"..shazzam etc
27. That actor looks familiar..what else was he/she in? IMDB etc

List goes on

So...this thing that is basically fitting in my hand can do all these things that if I had to use the old fashion methods I would need a Truck to carry them around.

Its like saying "A bombora is all I need...its just a windsurfer" It can be to some, but most of us here are after the latest high tech w/s gear..why not have a phone that can do so much more.

But then again sometimes I wish I was a luddite living on a desert island with nothing to distract me.

Smartphones definitely work for me. Im a lanscaper and Do all my invoicing on it,can always tell how much is owed and who owes it. When I go to collect and they say " oh I can't find the invoice you'll have to send it again and I'll pay it then" I can reply with " that's ok I'll email you a copy right now so you can pay me right now;)"
It's also gold for making the tough decisions like whether to knock early and hit the water, surf cams and live wind reports ect. Was nothing worse than knocking early only to find the tide was swallowing the swell.
Admitadely the original reason was after my son got an iPod. I had 100s of CDs getting trashed throughout the car...... Another problem I no longer have now.
Oh and the rain radar is gold for work too.
