Managed to get a few hours in on the snow whilst backcountry skiing last week
Question is - am I the only Telemark snow-kiter in Oz??????
nope.
i tele, and have kited in the snow.
so you and me are the only one.
where did you go riding??
theres chairs in the background but i can't tell, looks fun
Where abouts north of guthega did you go ????
i hike main range quite extensively most years (mount tate, Carruthers peak, club lake, blue lake, the sentinal etc) and i have always been keen on trying snow kiting up there but have never really figured out a suitable spot. would be very interested to find out where you did it.
No ice Haydn - you can see from my tracks its soft, but it was compact after the rain a few days before.
Maxiy - I used the slopes south of little twynam and down Crummer spur. Not ideal but that was the prevailing wind direction for the week. Also got out on the katabatics late in the evening too :-)
I saw someone else out the week before above the illawong hut wire bridge which was what gave me the idea.
Im an aussie kiter livin in the arctic parts of saskatchewan canada renowed for its 8 month winters and -40 to 50, and where getting ready for snowkiting ;) yeeew
Looks good Frankie.
I snowkited on my Tele gear from 2004-2008, then went to AT and never looked back. (Still got the tele setup in the shed in case I break something mid-season though)
JB: FYI - Here is a cruisy vid of snowkiting on Tate W ridge a couple of years ago
Maxiy: Here is a comprehensive online map to most of the spots to snow kite in NSW:
