I am interested in getting a new 16 Megapixel Sony Action Cam rather than a GoPro just that it appears more economical and seems fairly comparable on ability and features. Has anyone been using it for Kiting? Also what mounts and positions have you used it in and would you rate it or is it best to give it a wide birth and go down the GoPro Black Edition path instead? Cheers

I have both and use both the SAC and the B GP for work. Its not kiting btw.

I like the SAC, but not it's so great on "stills" low light. Video light is great, excellent.

Still sorting out the best options for Black GoP, however for what I do for work "hang gliding" it may seem the best one so far.

At the end of the day, do your homework and see what works for your operations.

It's a hard choice. GoPro outclasses in the Resolution and Frame rates, the colours of both are a little dull and I've never use the sony to test out their image stabilization feature. GoPro has a good range of FOV's at various frame rates which gives you the option of recording without the fish-eye. My choice would still be GoPro. The Audio is crap for both of them.

Anyway, I prefer my EOS 550D with full HD recording Zoom Lens and f 4.5. You can't take it under water but it's so much more enjoyable to watch. And the Audio is reasonable.

Here's a clip with bits from the GoPro1,3 and the Cannon.

Sony action cam records stereo audio and does 720@60fps.
It's a better sports camera than GoPro.

The digital stabilisation is better than most editing programs achieve.
