Ballsy stuff, that's a long tack.
10 hours kiting on flat water would be impossible for me let alone out there with that swell. It'd be brutal on your right thigh.
Ballsy stuff indeed.
all the best to these two crazy dudes hope it all goes well and they set a record would be awesome for the sport
apperantly a women is going to cross bass strait from somewhere at coast of vic to Tazzie. i found this out at SHQ sandringham
thats all i kno
they will go toeside obviously to lessen the crampening goodness on the right thigh - this is the main problem they'll encounter. There is an easy way around this though - i wonder if they've thought of it?
Thats pretty ballsy. I guess they will have a support boat though. Does anybody recognise what type of kites they are using. It looks like they are riding directionals and I would guess they would use footstaps . I think they would use a seat harness to take the strain of their backs.
"They will be attempting to add their name to the long list of people who have rowed, run, swum or windsurfed across the Strait. "
who the hell ran across??
"Over the past five years more than 30 people have attempted to cross Bass Strait in a variety of craft. "
Only around thirty people have attemped to cross Bass Straight in the last five years?
I slept accross the strait, does that qualify my for a record?
Edit:
I feel I should add a good luck message;
Good luck boys, look forward to the vid of you looping over a sun fish.
how about a warm up Gero to the Abrolhos 80 mile round trip. Port tack out starboard tack back, some swell, shallow water, relatively warm water and only have to watch out for a few man eating noahs.
Awesome stuff, good luck!
So its what? 240km wide (at its widest point)
Will take about 6-8 hours?
I reckon this should be a race one day
hmmmmm..........would like to what they intend on using as a support boat....not many skippers will be prepared to be out in Bass Strait in 20+knots
I wonder if the fact that they will look like a nice kouta lure for 8 hours has crossed their minds?
Maybe the the boards should be chrome. Chomp!
All I know from a support crew member
they gonna fly Takoon Chrono kites,
boards - custom made racing surfboards with large fins or Takoon 5'8.
Yes, there will be rescue boat following them.
Switching from toe to hill side might help a bit with thighs cramps, but 10-12 hours ...hm.
I think low back pain is more likely to be the problem.
Just wondering if in preparation they did try some shorter runs, let say 5-8 hours??
But the biggest challenge to me is doing this UNASSISTED- can not imagine steady consistent wind this time of the year> so they will have to change kites. Will anyone from support crew be able to launch kite from the boat in 3-4m swell???
I doubt it.
Any way GOOD LUCK!!!
