head to stanley in tasmania, from here you can kite most wind directions with no more than a half hour drive. during winter a 7m would be a big kite. Check the stats on cape grim just down the road.(probably the windiest place in oz)

cape grim comes in at 16, note most of the spots above are off shore locations, cape grim is on land.

nz has some mad wind in winter.

though where the mad wind will be on any given day is a lottery. if your prepaired to chase the wind around the north island yourd be able to find silly conditions most days.

i know you are not looking for warm water spots but Hula in PNG is worth a look. It is a very windy place. i am 100kgs and take a 6m when i go. Most days i am blown off the water before lunch time...

this is not frontal system wind its trade wind on steroids.

but hey wearing a wetsuit helps when you mistime your landings [}:)]

Its the geography around hula that pulls in the extra wind.

I am still keen to hear about more high wind places - thought the gorge in washington would have made the list or any of the western sahara coastline... the irish coast, falkland islands. There is a small island off the west coast of taiwan which gets epic wind, also has a kite/windsurf shop.

I'm always an advocate of Cape Town of course, but if you really want to scare yourself **less, head here anytime between November and March and try kiting away from the usual world class spots of Table Bay (which can be ** scary themsleves some evenings when it's blowing a steady 35knt+).

Depends on whether you want big waves or not, but try Cape Point if you're feeling brave enough. Pretty treacherous coastline not for the faint-hearted with some pretty huge swell. It's basicall the first point the famous Cape Dr SE'er hits land and is where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Pretty daunting place to visit out of the water, nevermind in it! Oh, and shark activity is far more prevelant this bit further down if that tickles your gung-ho fancy LOL!

You'd probably be advised to seek advice and/ or hook-up with one of the kiting outfits in Table Bay who do trips down there for the crazy folk. It's about 85km south of Cape Town.

I reckon Sotovento in Fuerteventura (June-sep). The wind on this part of the island is accelerated by the Venturi effect so 40+ knots is very common that time of year. Plus there are good kickers there. The levante wind in Tarifa is another that gets accelerated by the Venturi effect so nuking winds are common.

Viana de Castillo in Portugal (June-sep) regurly gets 40 knots and has excellent waves for kickers.
