Many have said that they have needed a second or third operation.
For what reason did you need more than one? Assume on same ear.
I asked my surgeon prior surgery about follow up operations on same ear, he said that I would not need a repeat operation ever.
My surgeon is happy with how much he was able to drill out the bone (rebore, oversize) making my ear channel bigger.
And yes, I still wear Doc's Pro Plugs

NOT to force liquid down ones ear canal i.e syringeing

So how do THEY doing it? Forcing metal scalpel down your ear canal while you unconscious ? :)

Syringeing only every 6 mnths or once a year. Is is not wise to do it more than that. So, yeah, do not do that very often.

Suction via small surgical "vacuum", via an ENT specialist. THe stories of home made suction decices makes me go numb!

I go once a year for a good clean out and check-up- always fully concious! It's not exactly a pleasant feeling and the cold air on the exposed middle ear process can make me dizzy to the point of gripping the chair for life!

Yep that was a very very bad day.

The anestesist got 2 chemicals to use, something to put you to sleep and a muscle relaxant(once you are sleeping) which stops your breaving and they plug you onto a respirator.

He gave me the wrong one first so my breathing stopped while 100% conscious and despite my vain attempt to wiggle (muscle no longer reacted), they sufocated me to unconsciousness

They apparently realised something was wrong when they saw that I was blue and finally plugged me on the respirator but went ahead with the operation anyway

I had extreme difficulties to fall asleep for quite a few weeks after as my body would jerk me awake everytime I would fall asleep.

Got over it and went kiting

Same thing happened to my mother when she went in for an op in Wellington. She was terrified because she couldn't breath and couldn't get anyone's attention to help!! She was convinced she was going to cark it. Apparently she reacted differently to the drugs than other people? At least that's what they told her They completed the op as well

You'll be surprised just how much crap they draw out.

Horace try burning one just holding it in your hand at the same angle as it would be in your ear. You'll be surprised how much crap it draws out

Got myself a "nice" little infection some time ago so wanted to share some thoughts and revive this thread...

Used Blu-tac since. Works well but it does block hearing. Which is ok if used for one ear, like I do. However, if using in both not so good.

Than decided to order Doc's Pro vented plugs. But which sizing?

It's got 8 different sizing ( T, XS, MS, S, M, L, XL, XXL)! Impossible task to choose from.

Luckily, this exist (sizing samples):

I would strongly suggest to get this before you order! Couldn't believe I am T and XS! Nothing bigger than XS can't put in... Unbelievable.

Used it yesterday and since vented, can hear, and most importantly my ear is hopefully safe!

Thanks dbabicwa

After a few years of minor blockage problems I'm getting my ears checked on Monday. Fingers crossed they're just full of sand, salt and wax!

Like many of the posters here I've had ongoing ear problems for many years. Some people have a strait ear canal and some (like me) have a little kink at the end of their ear canal. This kink stops water from draining out which can cause an infection. The best strategy is to keep your ears dry . I've tried quite a few different types of earplugs - some lose seal or drop out but these I find an excellent design (Macks Ear Seals). I got 5 sets on Ebay for $5.00 a set.

Thanks! Are they vented? If not can you drill a tiny hole in it to make it vented? Duno, heat a needle and make a hole...

Yep agree.
Wearing a helmet with ear covers helps especially after a good stack as is stops water getting forced into your ear.

They're not vented but I dont know if a vent is required. I've never had vented earplugs. Non of the various types I had including swim designed quite expensive ones had vents. Its not a bad idea though. You would need to drill a tiny hole - I think a hot needle wouldn't penetrate the silicone seal ends cleanly enough if at all. The same company makes dedicated swim plugs which are similar in design but these are the better type.

Perforated ear drums are REALLY painful having gone through that with my board slamming the side of my head in the 70's.

Hey Dafish - I got hit on the side of the head by my board over at TOS a few years ago and the impact blue my eardrum. Funny how it never mends 100%. Its always popping and creaking and clicking sometimes when I run.

Aqua ear works for me most times...
