I've got an original '08 Bandit and today I managed to break the plastic centre piece of the QR. Searching shows this is a pretty common problem with the f-one QR pre 2010 so I guess a few people here have come across the task of getting a new one.

I'm going to contact my local f-one dealer to see if they can order a new one however I've seen a few people swapping out theirs for the new Bandit QR, is this much more/worth it?

Alternately, does anyone have an old Tribal, Bandit or Bandit DOS QR lying around?

You should be able to get the plastic bit to replace your broken bit from anyone that sells Fone kites or you can contact M8 and they may be able to help you out.

With the older chicken loops, first check that you can remove the nut holding the plastic bit on. Get a pair of pliers and screw off the donkey dik and then you will need a deep socket to remove the nut. If it has never been off in the last 2-3 years there is a chance you may destroy the thread. If this happens definatly replace it with the new chicken loop.

Fitting the new chicken loop is easy, seing you have allready removed the old chicken loop from the centre line all you need to do is to push the centre line and safety line through the new UPS and install a pin in the centre line and pull it up in to the UPS and fit a small metal ring to the safety line. all done. The new chicken loop is a lot stronger will lock in to the bar when unhooked and the donkey dik will swing out of the way.

Hope this helps.

The bolt through the plastic bit came out without a problem; it almost looks band new with thread intact. I bought a friends Bandit quiver a couple months ago and he always washed the bar with fresh water after use so I assume that helped.

I spoke with my local dealer and they said they've had a few people with the same problem in the past and M8 has just replaced it so I may as well do that. I'm also getting a price on a Bandit 3 chicken loop as there's no doubt it seems a million times better!

Regarding the QR I think the velcro design is fine. I've next had it accidently released and when testing it a few times when I first got the kites it worked without a problem. The fact the chicken loop broke before the velcro let go is a sign it's strong, then again it also shows the chicken loops are faulty/under spec in the first place.
