Just back from four days at Cape Flattery. First day 15-20 knots, second day 30-35knots, third day 30-35knots and last day 25-30 knots. All on 7M except first day. Anth has improved the camp, now has proper tiolet and shower units plus erecting wind breaks and more areas to sit and relax. His Partner has added her flair to the camp and made it more comfortable. Great experience and even better than last year. Photos to follow.

interested to see pics but even with awesome wind was it worth over $1300 for 3 days of kiting and a day driving..? honest question i just couldnt justify working it into my cairns trip in a month.

Because we are on the East Coast are airfares are from $179 to Cairns, whereas if we want to go to Cocos the fares are approx $1,300 return. At least with Cape Flattery the wind is strong and consistent. On a daily basis the tour is $338 per day which includes great meals and accomm which to me is good value for consistent kiting.

nice, looking forward to seeing the upgrades next weekend..

As for the value of the trip, for me it's worthwhile as I don't get much time off work, so having everything organised for me lets me kite for 3 days straight and not worry about anything else..(food, accomodation, transport..etc). Similar cost to a 3-4 day snow trip.

Cheers,

Manny

Tend to agree. What you are paying for is location, privacy (i.e. limited number of kiters so no overcrowding), having someone follow you for downwinders, having drinks on hand (when doing downwinders) etc.

I had no problem with the value of the trip. By the last day we were so tired from the amount of kiting that we pretty much got as much kiting as we wanted. If you compare it to Cairns, the guarantee of wind is a lot lower. Our first Kitesurfari outing was as a result of a trip to Cairns for 9 days where we only had 8 knots of wind for the first 3 days with nothing coming on the next couple. Someone mentioned kitesurfari and we managed to get on a last minute trip. We had 20-25 knots every day for the entire trip whereas staying in Cairns would have been cheaper but with no kiting.

As someone mentioned, $300/day is not bad when you consider accommodation, food, drinks, transport, downwinders, and a person kite bitch who launches and lands your kite.

$1,300 for 3 days kiting is $433. Unless you live in cairns- by the time you factor in airfares and accomodation to get to cairns its a pretty expensive holiday. Probably cheaper to fly to the cook islands for 2wks.

Its 4 days of kiting. 3 days if you combine the actual kiting time but 4 separate days where you can kite. In hindsight, having the last day as a half day works well, you're so tired from full days of kiting that you can only kite half a day anyway. We've never needed accommodation in Cairns. We flew in the night before the trip, stayed overnight at anthony's lodge and then left the next morning to drive through. We left on the night we arrived back so no accommodation then either.

Aww man, reading this thread has made me trip out on nostalgia.

The Kitesurfari I went on was awesome!

The return flight from Perth wasn't that expensive, and I was able to time the inflight so I got picked up from the airport and then chauffeured straight up to the cape.

There is a lot of very cheap accommodation in Cairns, so if you need a room for one night on the way out, it's cheap as chips.

The wind didn't stop the whole trip, so it was kiting from dawn to dusk everyday, we had to be reminded to come in for a feed every now and then.
The food was great for such a remote location and there was more than enough for all.

The camp itself was basic, but very comfortable, sink, BBQ, tables, chairs, hot shower, toilet, esky.
To hear that the facilities have been upgraded is great, and to keep the prices the same is even better.

Ant is a top bloke, very friendly and runs a good operation.
The only thing you have to worry about is kiting, kiting and kiting.

I have been up with Ant a couple of times and I find anyone who hasn't been there thinks its expensive, I was the same at first. The mates that went with me said the same thing. But after you have been there an experienced what it has to offer and basically get treated like kings for 4 days by Ant and the team, all agreed it was worth it.

I don't think I have read one comment from anyone, on this post or others, who said it was not worth it.

Just an example. We went up during finals of the Rugby World Cup last year, in the middle of no where Ant got us set up with a big screen and put on the barbie after a full day of kiting. Nothing seems impossible for the guys.

I have to agree with Delta, Oceanfire, Saffer and Manny..

I've been twice and almost went again this June, possibly will go back later in the year work permitting.

It's basically guaranteed 4 days kiting, not 3. you kite on the day of arrival and on the day of departure. If you have enough energy to kite on the last day you simply didn't give it your all .. I was exausted by day 3 and stopped a lot more than I wanted :). It seems a shame to waste wind time but your body will give up after 24 hours of relentless bliss.

Conditions are awesome for flatwater and kickers, warm as, perfect sunsets. I also did a night kite when I ws there in August last year, and have the photos to prove it :):):).. Crocs? what's that?.. just don't fall in after dark, eheheh. (just kidding)

As far as care factor: Ant deserves a 100% for effort and now that there is a gentler touch on hand (go Paulie).. you really can't complain at all.

I will recommend this trip over and over, and I will be going every year. It's 98% guaranteed 4 days kiting.. can you get it anywhere else?

^^^^ what everyone else said
I have been 4 times and have loved every minute of it, nothing like being woken up at 7am by the sound of kites being pumped up. stop for lunch at 12 and I swear it feels like 3 in the afternoon, you can easily do 8-10 hours kiting a day even more by the looks of a few of the above photos.

4 days feels like a week up there anyway.

If you think it's to expensive why not hire a car between 2 people and go there for a fraction of the cost? Then you can make a trip out if it and stay for a week or two

Not sure what all the palaver is about,
If you reckon its too much money for a great time, don't go.

I don't really see why people that do go and have a fantastic time have to listen to people don't want to part with their pennies, justify why they won't pay for a memory that they will reminisce (with a smile) and brag about too their mates for a long time to come.
When I'm past it, I'd rather have the memory than the money.

The guys are obviously putting up their posts here cos it was a bloody good time, and worth every penny.

I think that's great to hear, and I look forward to my turn.

If you have $300 plus to burn a day on a kite trip good luck to you but as alot of us don't you can get the same conditions as Flattery without travelling the same distance.

For me 3 days is nowhere near enough. Last year I kited 12 days straight 18-25 knots every day, flat water , the body just keeps going, then I had to go home

anywhere north of Cape Tribulation along the coast you will find 20+knts with epic kiting locations and big beaches.
Getting out to the islands, cays and reefs is special and definitely a highlight out there too.
Both North East and North West Coast of Australia blows your mind and kites..

Its good to hear that you and your body are fit enough to hold up to that sort of fun.

As for the wind, sounds great, are you going to share where you were kiting, so i can head there for a bit of the same.
