Eppo , thats a tough one. Im sure everyone will recommend their brand, but I think you really just need more wind.
What the hell does anyone do over winter?
My balls get smaller in winter. Sadly.
youre right though, winter is all about surfing. How good has the surf been in nsw the last week? Hope nobody missed it.
Never thought I would say it but you need to try one of the Airush Sector boards,
I have been outriding 17mt Core kites with my 12mt and a Sector 52, awesome feeling when you are flying around and most crew can't be bothered pumping up
Hey eppo,
If you're keen to do the drive again, I'll throw the 17's in the ute and bring them into Scarbs. Light winds ahoy!
DM
As everyone is coming to understand, it is the efficiency by 'design', not the size - that can create a good light wind kite... with relaunch and speed
The 13m Epic Renagade 'Infinity' kite taken from an Iphone... yes - that is a 13m folks !!!
becareful of thinking a bigger kite is going to be better most kites will fly in 9-14 knots instead look at what your riding . don't be fooled into thinking a surfboard is better either look at the rails and rocker yeah it's got more flotation but it's not very efficient . lots of companys make light wind boards but tt usually have straps that restrict weight placement . a skimboard is the go . plenty of them out there ride it strapless so you can shift your weight around . i ride a 12 torch with a skate normally but when it's light i break out a north skimfish only bloke thats gets going befor me rides a 17m2 speed3 foil with a 140 and he weights 20kgs less than me . it almost defies logic but the apparent wind generated by speed is very decieving you think your powered up till you slash a turn and you wonder where the wind went and then realise there isn't any in the first place
Strez,
You would have had fun at Yule today then 'cause the rest of us couldn't even get moving, bring on the wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with you 100%, the other benefit is the cost of a skimboard V's a kite.

Kited at four mile for 2 hours from 11 am, reasonable winds by FNQ summer standards. Moderately powered on 12 m rebel and 135 select.[
So many marginal days lately arrh... I've been thinking about getting a light wind kite for wave riding. Could a single strut low weight kite be the way to go?

Found this in a previous post - has any one demo-ed one?
Maybe buy a boat and go wakeboarding thats what i do. So you find a kite and board that gets you going in 10 kts but how much fun is it really going to be...probely be more exciting mowing the lawns.
not sure what your getting at DM, that was so boring probely fun for the first five minutes before you go to sleep.....desperate kiters beware this aint the answer
LOL to you
Not sure how credibly someone with "SUP" in their forum handle can accuse others of boring activities
catching even 4ft waves on a SUP is a lot more fun than 10 kts on a kite. Dont get me wrong I luv kiting and it is my job but unless its 15kts whats the point. Light wind kites are just the result of the retailers trying to boost sales to the desperadoes.
When kiting came to Perth in 2000, everyone said it was dangerous and would be a passing fad. 10 knot kiting is super fun and can be extreme .... have lots of fun 50% more ...
^^^^ Agree, it aint cheap or convenient!!!! I have a skiboat, and been doing it for over 25 years (waterski, wakeboard, barefoot) and pretty much spend every second weekend up the lake rain, hail or shine. But you need a crew, and at least one one other person with a speed boat license, and your crew needs to contribute financially, unless your happy to cover all costs, and you need the time!
For me, wife, kids, career, studying a degree part time, im time poor (like many others) and kiting is something that can be done for a couple hours here and there when the opportunity arises, no crew required, only some wind. There aint no waves in Brisbane, so SUP doesnt appeal to me at all. And we dont get the cranking winds of the likes in WA. Personally, LW kiting does appeal, it means maximising any chance of some precious free time on the water improving my progression. If I can get out of the office early and get an arvo kite in, then im a happy chappy, it doesnt have to be 20+ knots. So I'm currently looking for a light wind kite
Each to their own though KiteSUP, whatever rocks your boat, its subjective, and disagree LW kiting is for desperadoes. And I hate mowing my lawn, i pay someone else to do it, so I can spend more time skiing, kiting or with my family
For eppo;
Im a tad over 100kg, and have tried the 17m's Ozone Zephyr, Best Taboo and the LW Core. But im hanging out to try the new Griffin Argo 17m, theres also the North Dyno. Being my first season, and relative noobness I doubt I have the experience to give you comparative feedback that would hold any weight. But of the 3 demo'd so far, the Ozone was my favorite, will let you know how the Argo goes when Mr Griffin finally gets one sent up this way, im hoping its the goods, because price wise its ahead of all the others.
let us know what you find with the griffin. Radman loves em! I'm going to go core because that's what I will be riding (Having used a mates for a while now) - hence i know what to expect from the XR. hey as long as it gets you out, is stable, can loop - I don't care! and I agree light wind kiting is precious time to yourself.
