The Across the Bay to Conquer Cancer is planned for this Saturday. 25 kiters will attempt the 90km journey from Rye to Port Melbourne.
You can find out more about the event - and get the link to donate to a worthy cause here: www.facebook.com/pages/Across-the-Bay-to-Conquer-Cancer/418371941550110?fref=ts
We will be carrying EPIRBS, SPOTs and have PFDs. There will be support boats too.
Here are some photos of the 66km training run we did last weekend.
We are looking for a few kiters to go on the boats, and a couple more boats are welcome too.
Good luck fellas! Hope you dont need the services of any of the planned support or use of the emergency equipment. It's a great challenge for a worthy cause - SMASH IT!
Thanks Lostdog & Harry Potter. We have done a lot of training so hope to have the endurance.
The wind is good tomorrow so we will definitely make an attempt. You can follow progress on Twitter @KiteAcrossBay
Fingers crossed...
21 kiters completed did the 98km journey in about 5 hours with great support for boat crew and Coast Guard. More info to follow.
Some pics of the finishing are uploading to this site. They're still uploading so it could be half an hour before they are up.

I think everyone did a min of 80kms. Peter was out on the water earlier testing the conditions and then also had to wait while we all drift launched (which was bit tricky in gusty offshore wind).
My GPS log read 85kms at the finish (3 hours and 15 minutes on the water).
Awesome day and we couldn't have asked for better conditions. Apart from few light patches at the start we got consistent wind around 18-22 knots the whole way.
Yes, I did few extra kms at Rosebud while everybody launched.
