I just went down to woodies and sat in my car for half an hour.
My car was shaking around and there was a few bolts of lightning too.
Very depressing.
Might wait a few hours and hope she calms down a little...
dont be silly, unless you know what your doing and have a 5m kite stay at home.
There is too many crew that are too keen for their own good. 100 % depower is bull crap.
im thinking wait until tommorrow or it will end up with some bad shizzit, im keen but nothing worse than being out there getting gusted and losing yr board
its beer oclock this arvo, looking out the window on St Georges tce a number of flags in tatters
Someone is out at Scarb on an Ozone 5 meters, big balls
Looks awesome, getting huge surf and big airs
Shame i am nowhere near good enough to try it
Oh man. I went down to brigton to have a look maybe 1.5 hours ago. Noone was out. Some big surf rolling through however.
When I was sat in my car, I could feel the suspension move when it gusted. Thats too windy for me
Just went and had a look at the beach .. (4pm) .. it is cranking .. dead onshore .. easily a consistent 35+ knots.
Wind is so strong, I could comfortably lean into it and not fall over ... I don't have a kite small enough for that kind of wind!
Noice.
I just went down to Cott. Looks awsome. I got out of the car to experience the wind.
Big mistake, took me 10 min to get back to the car. I think I have found a use for those reel leashes.
I've got a 1.8m trainer with lines strong enough to loft a 13 year old who had a go of it one day. He would have only been about 50kg though. I wonder...
its ripping out there! Just had to move my car from under a tree just in case. Hopefully it will back off a little for tomorrow as I and everyone else NEED a good session fingers crossed.
That was kitehard who had a crack out at brighton. I didnt see him on the water, but he said there were some bombs coming through together with some gusty strong wind.
The constant squalls coming through had me too scared to go out.
I spent all day sitting at home looking out the window, praying for it to ease off a bit.
So bored i even did my tax return.
WOW I just saw the storm in WA... Some decent sized trees uprooted!
Looked nasty. Hope all you guys and your houses are all okay.
100km- 54 knot winds... wow. Feel free to send 20 knots of that this way sometime!
I cant believe it. I woke up early on a Saturday morning thinking I would get at least a few hours on the water but NO!
I hate winter.
Bring on the Cocos Islands in September
isn't it weird how everyone was praying for wind and now everyone is pi***d off because there is too much
insane friday! i was out most of the day on a 6m airush in bunbury extremely gusty by myself all day i love winter
It was really good to see that most people erred on the side of caution yesterday and chose to stay on the beach or in their cars. The conditions were about as extreme as it gets with huge surf and onshore winds and were way beyond the 7m kite capability that most people have for windy days.
Even with the considerable experience I have had in these kind of conditions and the fact that I had a 5m kite up, and weigh 93 kilos, I was still 50% nervous and 50% exhillerated before during and after the session. I played a very cautious game whilst out riding the small to medium waves. I avoided the big ones, just too big! I had a good session but called it off after about 45 minutes after having a few close shaves with pounding waves and decided not to push my luck too far.
Big ups also to the beach inspector who came down to check if I knew what I was doing before launching. He also stayed and watched until he was satisfied I knew what I was doing and came back once I had landed to make sure I was OK and that I wasn't going out again. He was a bit nervous and I don't think he wanted to get out of his car!
Big thanks to the guys who braved the stinging sand and pelting spray to launch and land me. Muchos gracias!
I would say to aspiring storm riders that you must be 100% confident that you can handle the conditions and are fully prepared for the worst should something go wrong. If there is any doubt in your mind, then don't go out, especially in onshore conditions.
Good winds,
While we are all talking it up.
I got out yesterday on my 7m, twas lit.
Thanks to Ringo for braving the flying sea weed and filming.
Sent a short film to Laurie, he recons 6 seconds air!
I havent counted it yet.
(with a double kite loop on the way down )
Will try for 4 kite loops next time
Lovely photos fellas, very beautiful contrasts.
Had a nice couple of hours today...wished I could surf though...would have been there at sunrise...........brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I spent Friday staring at the bombs coming through down at Inji. Late afternoon it finally turned Sw but stayed above 40 knots. Some of the faces were easily 8-10 foot, and dead crosshore. I pulled the pin when my kite started to lift off even though there was a ton of sand on it. Spewing......
