GoPro Tips ?

So what settings are people getting the best results with?

I took mine out yesterday set on r5. Seems to distort the pics a fair bit. Some look ok rotated.

Heres a couple of the better ones. Im keen to see more of other crews, I know there are a heap of people out there with them.

Some of the facial expressions can be pretty dam funny.

Also the stills distortion may be from the camera rotating as the picture is being taken, but being hand held being still will be a challenge!

They look that way because of the fish eye lens, not the case.
R4 is 30 fps; R3 is 60 fps

I use R4 on the nose of the board and for harness mount (a pole going off to the left or right) and R5 for kitemount.

I like harness mount best, but it is nice to mix and match. My problem is too much footage and I would rather be doing other things than sitting editing!

i've only used the helmet strap thingy, problem is that it doesn't do the waves justice, makess 10ft waves look like 'pony' 5fterss

Lowstevo is that a custom line mount you got there or a bought one?

Camera in r4, hanging upside down, under lines and camera set to upside down mode, original sound muted and music added, all rendered in sony vegas pro 10. compressed to a mp4 from 2 gb to about 100 megs.
shot on 13.01 so could of done with a bit more wind, but really just testing the stabilising bar set up and the editing program.

I took out the fishing pole again yesterday.
This time I had it set on r4. I think it worked a bit better.

i'll take a photo today at the beach (when the wind comes ) of it attached to the lines but here's a photo of it off the kite.





Standard kite line mount with a bar of silver solder from Bunnings (5mm 3%). We heated the bar to curl the ends so we could feed the line through, and then cable tied the bar (not too tight) though the threaded hole in the line mount. Then we run a safety line just up to the swivel so if it goes t!ts up we don't loose the camera (and it stays out of shot).
By upgrading the firmware on the camera you can add 'upside-down' mode that way you can hang under the lines, with the camera upside down and really eliminate centre line wiggle.
We used a 9m 2010 switchy and set the camera 1/2 way between the top of the depower system and the centre line swivel (on the center line and the ids landing line) about in line with the top of the leader lines on the outside (steering) lines. If you throw the safety its ok'ish but we came up with this set up for a ozone bar so it will sit just above the the metal centre line spreader and the whole camera and bar move up if you throw the chicken loop.

I managed to 'aquire' a copy of sony vegas pro 10, its quite a high end video editor and the curve is quite steep but i'm gonna play with what ever footage we get today.
