In case you haven't seen this one already...
Aya and I were kiting a Long Reef a couple weeks ago. As I was riding a wave, she got taken out by the same wave just upwind of me.
The rest is pretty self-explanatory...
Imagine rob was strapped in and absolutely flying, and at the same time as contacting with the other kites lines it had just had another pull from the wave resulting in taught lines, add to this no wetsuit and soft skin from an extended seshion in the water, and that would have been a lot worse, possibly deep lacerations.
It just shows how quickly things can go pearshaped out there.
Er.. did the huge black/red/white object on the water not get your attention?

I figured it happened as you described, just that the vid looked a bit like you had just ploughed into a stationary kite, so I'm thinkin "What could be more visible that a huge stripy red/black/white kite?"
After looking at in slow-mo I see the lines actually took you down! Woah!! That coulda been nasty! Clearly I have too much time on my hands.
