There has to be more to it surely......!

Exatly, no one would be that dumb, Its clearly Norths answer to Ben Wilsons marketing ploy of getting surfers into kiting.
North is way ahead of the game again, its about getting golfers into kiting...

His story was that he is a local, doing a downwinder that he regularily does. The wind dropped and bodydragged a long way to get back in. He reckons he ended up on the rocks and there was nowhere to land his kite so was in search of some where to land..... and ended up on the golf course......

EVERYBODY should be able to land a kite on the water and wind the lines in. Basic self-rescue technique.

If i was body dragging to shore and I had nowhere to land the kite once there, I would wind my lines in before i hit the beach/rocks and then swim the last 30m or so with the kite under my arm - in fact I've done exactly that once before.

Looks like a great idea. The smooth grass on the golf course greens would have much less wear and tear on the kite than yucky sand filled with sharp shells.

The only risk is that your kite will luff and drag you in front of a car which will kill you, or fall in front of a car causing it to crash into a mother with a pram and kill her and her baby....etc

it's obvious ,the guy had a bad trip then flashbacked to the good
old days when you could fly a kite and nobody cared

intersting to see he wasn't from out of town but a local

... bloody North riders ey, they feel sooooo confindent with their kites that they can feel like they can get away with stunts like this [}:)]

Maybe he didn't wanna get the kite wet???? [}:)]

Jokes aside, whats wrong with landing your kite in water and walking up the lines, if the beach is too narrow, just land it there,, spose you had to be there to understand why he did it! I don't get it!!

cheers,

Robbie

Cottesloe rangers have been given a shoot to kill order, using the council's trusty old .22, to put aggressive magpies, unwanted possums and plonker kiters out of their misery ....

I heard there were no swimmers or poledancers in the water, but he spotted some in the carpark across the road so he walked over to kite next to them.

Dusta and Freddo are right on.

Why pay out on the guy when you don't know the story?

I can't think of a single reason for walking up the stairs off the beach, between parked cars and pine trees, crossing a busy road, more parked cars and over/through a fence and more bushes before stopping on the golf course with your kite still up, emergency or otherwise, if there was something wrong then pulling the safety in the water on down on the beach was most likely was a better option?

I don't want to slay the guy until we get a better explanation, but in the absence of that explanation it's hard not to draw your own conclusions.

But then again, packing up on grass is much more pleasant that on the beach??

If these pics are true, then the beach (I forget the name of the breaks but isn't it 'Firsts' or 'Seconds') directly left of where the cars are lined up is currently a bank of 3m-wide weed, with a strip of 5m-wide gravelly sand followed by a lot of rocks about 10m wide, and then a 12m cliff. He would have had to have climbed up the 40-odd steps by the Cottesloe sun dial to get on the path near the adjacent carapark, then across the road. There would have been lot of bad wind from the Cott SLSC building.
Was there any wind at that time of day?
I smell something fishy here ..... I can't see him in the pics and the lines are awfully faint - although the shot of him dropping it on the golf course would be hard to Photoshop by any means.

hehehe i can see a challenge coming on... golf would be pretty easy lots of open spaces. you could landboard between greens. perhaps a peter lynn arc with auto zenith. then kitesurf the water traps....

infact do an entire day with the kite in the air.

sleeping that would get difficult.

You would have to watch the up draft comming out of the bunkers.
Then again, a bit of kite soaring between holes could add to the fun.

I lost my board at the rocks near cott last week doing a downwinder, I body dragged in and walked my kite down past the art work/people then found a nice bit of sand to land it on, key word being sand. I wouldn't call myself the most exprienced kiter, but commensence prevails. At least no-one got hurt.

PS f anyone finds an old RRD placebo board PM me so you can get a carton and I can get a old board back :-)

If he landed it on the beach, there would be a vitriolic post here about the fkhead noob blah blah who landed on a swimming beach and how all the bans are due to idiots like him etc etc

If he pulled the safety with swimmers around and one person felt a line brush them, it would be just like above.

Tough crowd this one..... nobody in this forum has ever found themselves downwind with no way to get home?
If so, what would you have done if there was swimmers everywhere, a cafe, lifeguards scowling at you, and 10 million bucks worth of (dumb) art exhibition on the beach?

It's a simple error to make really; after an awesome session I once forgot to drop my kite and pack it up.

I was half way home when a passing truck on Scarborough Beach Rd half lofted me, car and all

Pretty sure if he landed it in the water and wound it up and swam
It in on a swimming beach it may have been slightly more sensible. Wake up.
