Anyone try one of these? Are they any good, stay on your head when you stack? Or are there others that do a good job?

Thanks.

sounds good once you cut the eye holes at the front

Yes they work fine.

Had a Billabong hat, same style for the last 2 seasons, with no problems

They are all similar, mine has a velcro strap rather than a clip under the chin. Just make sure the fabric on the top of the hat is fully UV rated.

I have one! They are good but of course not a fashion statement!
Keeps the sun away and that what it's doing perfectly.
Don't buy them to big as in the picture of the webpage, otherwise you really have to cut some holes in.
I don't know why they cost $40?
Rip off IMO.

I have a never ending supply of caps that I get for free - just pick them up when out off Sandgate/Brighton. Personal best is 3 in one session! Lost my favorite UFC one (which I liked for the irony) on the weekend though - although I'm reconsidering the cap after a jelly got held on my face by the brim. Nasty red welt.

Bought same one few weeks ago, good fit, has tie on back to attach to rashie or wetsuit zip if it comes off in a stack (which it does, even with the strap - not off but ends up behind your head)
I liked it, protection for ears also but the brim makes you strain neck more than usual, I don't have the kite high or watch it much but having a brim like that makes you know every time you do!
Stopped wearing it on water, (good for rigging and waiting for wind though) and went to something (cap) with no brim just to protect head. You could always wear a helmet but that's another subject & thread..

Island Tribe sunscreen has been my best find this season, no more greasy skin or burning either, highly recommended.

I have the self same FCS bucket hat but thought it was more like $20, must be inflation!

It's been going strong for 3yrs and has faded a bit but otherwise fine. It's not exactly a stylish fashion statement, more an admission of the increasing health concerns of middle age, but I really can't recommend a hat highly enough, and certainly it saves you from an awful lot of face and eye burn and also get less surfers ear issues since I stared wearing a hat as you are protected from that sideways blast of water that hits your ear mid wipe out. The front has stiff brim but the rest is soft, quite compatible with duck diving when surfing, but occasionally the brim bashes you in the central forehead and leaves a bruise.

Here is good tip though. In waves it would always get knocked off when hit from behind by the lip or whitewater, but I found that by tying a string across the back of the neck between the two straps it can never be knocked completely off, hence why this one has lasted 3 yrs. $40 well spent.

These provide UV protection, plus the handy built in wind gauge prevents you from looking like a dork standing on the dunes holding your iphone up to find out if its windy enough to go kiting!

Thanks all
It was in the shortboard forum and wondered if they adapted to kiting. They were more concerned about saving the skin cancer over fashion statements.

I do like the top hat idea, you could store several coldies up there!

And, I note a lot more sarcasm in here than the short board forum. Not that I care, but the poleys are always having a go at us about that. Not that I like to visit the poley forum too often (unlike lotofwind), it smells musty in there

Surely they would be good. Can't see why not! If you are worried about the fashion side of it, the baseball cap looks pretty good too. It's cheaper as well. Might not block off as much sunlight though

Bobajob - Ive been a bucket head user for a few seasons. Being a ranga I cover up as much as poss. The bucket is prob the best cover I have seen without the brim getting in the way in real windy conditions. The brim hat also allows me to see when those winter rain squalls come through. A really good wipeout in the waves has taken my hat off before, but recovered it. Im using it SUP and surf as well as KS
