Does anyone know if there is much difference between the 960 and the 1080 hero, there both 5megapixels, and they both seem to have the same specs .

Not having looked, I would guess one has a max resolution of 640x960 and the other has 1080x1920 maybe

The 960 hero also doesn't have what the call Hero Bus which is am expansion port that they'll use for an add on LCD screen, remote etc etc.

Lots of details on the gopro website.

Here's from the specs:

"The HD HERO 960 features the same professional grade 960p, 720p and 480p (WVGA) video & 5MP timelapse photo modes, and incredible sound recording system as its big brother, the HD HERO camera.

Missing from the HD HERO 960 are 720p @ 60fps, 1080p video, and the HERO BUS expansion port in the rear of the camera that will let you take advantage of GoPro's forthcoming BacPac accessories - LCD screen & Battery Extension."

960 HD Video Resolution Modes:

* 960p = 1280x960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
* 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
* WVGA = 848x480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

-vs-

HD Hero Video Resolution Modes:

* 1080p = 1920x1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
* 960p = 1280x960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
* 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
* 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
* WVGA = 848x480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

..and 960 is about ~ $100 cheaper than the HD...

The illusive Alternate Go Pro Mount, I got i done finally might want to consider if you have a directional board it is fantastic. the giant glue plate sucks in aesthetic purposes.

I did the same as above but glassed them in the same as a fin plug(which it is)
cost about 10 bucks for the gear and after a good sand then a wet and dry you cant even tell... I also mounted it bout 10 cm back from the nose and 5 cm to the left of centre then angled it back towards the stringer for a better rider/wave shot.(I am goofy so if you are goin to mount it like this then opposite if you are natural) oi.....
