how to be a better backside waverider? unhook, otherwise you're fighting against the kite the whole time

When you are hooked-in, you can throw buckets. ^^^

Yep but he is frontside.

I agree with Stamp if you were a natural footer on that wave the only way you could get close to throwing buckets like that would be unhooked.

I keep hearing kiters say that you have to face the wave but I really can't see why.

Why ? ^^^

You simply look better.

lol.

I actually agree that a top turn (throwing buckets) usually looks better when frontside but you started by talking about bottom turns and getting vertical and IMO you are then better off backside for the same reason i.e. you can lean back and put your full weight into it whilst supported by the kite as in your picture.

Assuming there is a bit of onshore in the wind like we usually get here that is.

Frontside, backside, hooked, unhooked who cares do what feels good.

The kites pretty high and he hasn't really hooked in under the lip. Need to compare apples...

I don't know why it bothers you so much that I showed your picture ?

It's your pic.

You willingly posted it up.

Only yesterday it appears.

...Along with several other photos of your good self.

I thought you liked looking at yourself ?

Don't bag the VB man, see how you go with one leg!

I think you can get more drive out of a bottom turn of your heel than your toe with kite in hand ..

^^^ But you get a better view of the wave frontside, hence :know what's comin and prep for it:.
Spend most of my time backhand in WA, but when we get a n"wester, it's heaven.
Sometimes even bolt on me other leg for it

Ho, VB Man!

Having 2 bolt-on legs myself, I am interested in what type of bolts you are using and whether you are using isolation sleeves to slow corrosion from electro-potential difference in a saline medium. My surgeon tells me that mine are cadmium chrome alloy machined to finer tolerances than the space shuttle. i asked him which space shuttle but he wouldn't say. He just laughed, which made me feel uneasy.

Anyway, you will always remain my hero. It's not easy kiting with one leg. You must have lost it since those halcian days of kiting at Peli Point before the yellow buoys and at North Scabs before the self-appointed kite police and L-platers, cos you still had two legs then.
P.S. Mary sends her regards and a reminder that there is no such thing as a free launch these days.

Yeah spewin Mal, was up there about three weeks back for three days and all I got in was about a half hour at corro's in lame conditions.
But the high point was getting told off by fat euro polies, in understuffed, oversized budgies, just for being there.
I'll make a very concerted effort to be back up there soon, be in touch.

Aww, come on man. I'm sure Mary still likes her walks on the beach, and I doubt she's forgotten how to launch/land an "inflatable"

Ofcourse if its a bit cross off it changes things a bit but the better riders do double back under the wave before smashing it again. NW last few times on backhand is fave direction..especially in Perth the waves line up better NW.
