Hey Warwick - one thing I have done before is fold the line over then leave the end loop open and on the section with the end wrap it with some self adhesive repair cloth - then run ya mums sewing machine over the lines - just like bought ones and really easy to do - I like to avoid knots as they tend to become week points eventually.
Did a quick search for you and came up with this - originally from gerard
Hi
Have ago your self! I cut a set of 25mtrs down to 20’s recently and they are ok. They don’t look quite like new buy they are strong enough so far!
1. Mark the length you want on the line with texter
2. Cut off old stitching using razor blade (making sure you don’t cut sleeve cause you reuse this)
3. Slide sleeve down past texture mark cut line to new length
4. Re sew using the same criss cross stitching like the originals ( I used 80lb fishing braid)
Gday Warwick,
I did the same as Sunseeker posted. I only used normal needle and thread and hand-stitched it and it's been fine but the braid's probably not a bad idea.
My only suggestion is use the end you alter at the bar end so they don't cop as much wear and tear. I did mine 12 months ago and haven't had any issues.
Cheers
