Well, Sunday 19th was a beautiful sunny day, hitting nearly 35 degrees, with 14 girls coming down to kick of the first WACK! Gathering at Pinnaroo Point, despite an absence of kitable wind.
This doesn't mean there weren't ANY kites around; it was the first outing of the work-in-progress WACK! beach shelter (thank you Gavin for the donation of the kites), plus, thanks to Darren Marshall and AKS there was a selection of demo kites set up on the beach.
Darren also gave us a very useful and practical instruction on self launch, land and rescue techniques, and he did actually manage to launch one kite with a bit of extra help!
One of the girls managed to launch her kite too, but it was very marginal, and there just wasn't quite enough wind to see anyone rushing to get their boards out.
But it was a fantastic opportunity for all the girls to catch up with friend old and new, and I doubt that there will be many other daylight hours this season when you will see so much of WA's female kiting talent in one place just sitting on the beach chatting!

The afternoon finished up with a bit of a BBQ on the beach and a few drinks at sunset.

Many thanks goes out to the girls who made the stellar effort to come down, to Darren of AKS for donating his valuable time, expertise and demo equipment, and to our beach support crew (Pat from Waksa, and the other boys who came to support their girls!).

Looking forward to bigger and better things, and wind(!), for our next gathering at Penguin Island on the 9th November from 2pm.

For more information about WACK!, please see the Waksa website, or email wack!@waksa.org.au

Yes it was a pity about wind, sadly we dont have the right connections to be able to arrange everything to perfection! But we still had a fantastic afternoon.

We made a decision that the priority for WACK! is to enable the coming together of women kiters, and by fixing dates well ahead of time (which will be the second Sunday of each month during the summer) it will be easier for women with family and other commitments to make the time to come along.

Regardless of weather, we will be there, and I am sure more often than not we will get awesome time on the water .

If you are interested next time you have a WACK meet and the weather is looking doubtful we can bring down some Stand Up Paddle boards and at least you can get out on the water.

We had a demo on the river today and both Tina and Shan came out for a paddle and had a great time.

Not a bad option when the weather doesn't do the right thing.

Good one nickers nice to see something like that go ahead. I'll be there next time with the kids and encouraging the wife to get out there and kite.
