Hey guys- am wondering if this trick has a name, and if there is any secret to it..
I've seen a couple of people boost really high, and invert their bodies. So they extend their legs straight up and point the board at the sky, and their torsos / heads point down back towards the water. Looks awesome, and I imagine it must feel pretty incredible too. Didn't know how to search for it as I have no idea if it has a name. Am wondering if there is any trick to the technique, or if it's just about getting enough height and making sure the kite stays at 12, bar in, whilst you thrust you legs up? I'm picturing some pretty messed up landings whilst learning this one!
Thanks,
Tom
My favourite from freestyle days was a 180 one handed invert, loved it..........since retired from freestyle
Siiiiick!!!! Wow, looks crazy fun! :-D Will have to order me a copy!!
Thanks for heads up guys.
@eppo, curious about what you mean by a good stopper ball. I've got F-One Bandits, stopper ball always seemed to be in a very comfortable position when riding normally and pushing the bar out if overpowered. I notice that it is adjustable using an allan key as well. Should it be in a position where you are still have some power when you let go of the bar?
you want to slide the stopper ball down when you attempt a 'Deadman' as you will need to keep the kite powered up, check out the photo above and you can see he is using the stopper rather than letting the kite fully de-power
Yeah right, so I guess I should loosen the stopper ball slightly so that it can be slid up/down by hand, but can still hold the bar in place. Nice! :)
just make sure you start to invert before you reach the peak of your climb......you must be inverted by the time you're at the top of your jump or you'll not be able to get back in time to spot the landing.....
@Tom82...
There are 2 inverted air-style jumps to learn. The first one is the Candlestick.
A Candlestick is inverted like austin has shown, but the hands are kept on the bar. As stated all you do is lift your legs and tilt your head back just before you hit the apex of the jump. Other variations are keeping one hand in the middle of the bar and try and grab your board with the other hand and do a styled-out inverted grab.
Dead men either require a stopper ball or a micro-hook. They were popular when kites had limited-or no-depower. With todays kites you need to learn how to jump using a C-kite technique.... you cant fly the kite to 12 and pull in the depower. Doing a deadman using todays kites as Eppo stated will make you drop like a stone.
Sounds like youre just getting into jumping. Be aware theres a difference between getting good vertical lift, and long more downwind jumps. try a candlestick or deadman on a downwind bust and your going to land very hot.
STW- ok, got it. Thanks. Sounds like the kind of adjustable stopper I used to have on my 2009 North bar. I'm suspect I'm unlikely to construct my own homemade sliding ball, so Disco man will have to suffice for now. :)
I was gonna say ask VB (aka Big airman) for an explanation. I think he invented the single, double and triple clap deadman?
anyone make their own stopper ball? Want to retrofit one to my ozone and naish bars (both have tubed depower lines). I'm hanging up the boots and slapping the sandals back on. Oldskool is back baby!
