Lobitos, Pacamayas are the focus might head to CHicama 500km south of there if that is a better option.

you will have a great trip, i'm jealous.
a good tip for south american travel in general is to never rely on anything happening on time; leave plenty of room for error or you will miss planes buses meals etc. not a bad thing- it's just how things work over there and you need to adjust to it...

don't stay in Mancora, stay at Lobitos ;)

Unless you like to spend more time driving in a car then you do on the water.

Enjoy,

just got back from a month in south america! loved it, you'll have a great time, yes learn spanish!!! its a big help, also dont get any peruvian soles (local cash) in australia, just take out of atm at lima airport or excahnge there, you always get ripped off in australia exchanging money, we still live n the 1970's here, the rest of the world has moved on and excepted money exchanges as a normal part of life, here its like a "special thing" and also theres no carbon tax in peru either so your up already! hmmmmm pisco sour.........enjoy.

I still can't apprehend why I can't save money on any currency I want? This was a shock when I arrived here 10yrs ago with muchos $US and got ripped by exchange...

Yes, the 70's in some things. Many things...Maybe a good thing, who knows...

Honestly mate Mancora is ** hole. It is a very busy snarl of a town with a filthy beach and seedy night life that pumps all day and night. I stayed there for two nights which was more than enough.

I spent 8 days all based in Lobitos which in my opinion is a far superior base. It is essentially very QUIET but with awesome surf in the morning and epic kiting all afternoon it was an easy choice. Lobitos has about 3 epic waves all within walking distance of the accommodations thus no need for a car. You can hire a driver out there for peanuts as well if you want to do side trips etc.

The buses are actually pretty good as well. Very regular and operate between each town.

You will still have a great time but get out into the Peruvian outback and find your own waves and spots its an amazing place.

been to peru 2times in august -september for 2months. Not so many waves up at mancora this time of year, as they get the north swell. Lobitos get some south swell, but when it on alot of people head there to surf (don't like kiters in the surf zone) not much to do there if no waves or wind. Pacasmayo is an insane wave to kite and surf, wind start about 10-11 in the morning and cross off, but not to much. Make sure u can kite well, not so much beach to launch and the wind can get gusty close to shore, if not lobitos has alot of beach and alot easier to kite, but pascasmayo picks up more swell then most places. Chicama is about 1hour drive south from pacasmayo, if pacasmayo is 6foot chicama wil be half the size, but if u get it pumping its an incredible wave. Buses r the way to travel, they go to most of the places u need to be at. If u stay at pacasmayo yhe best place to stay is elfaro resort overlooking the hole beach, cost about us30 a night. If your on a budget u can stay in town at the surf hostel call duke (pronounced DU KA) for us5-10. If your into your waves kiting and surfing pacasmayo is deff 1 off the best (1.5 km long) and the buses leave at night and get there in mornig, if u get the the right one and then u can get a bus from there to mancora north, but don't expect to many waves there at this time of year. But lobitos is a great wave, same tpye of wind set up as pacasmayo (10-11 winds up) Hope this help u...... ps watch yourself and your stuff there, alot of thieves.....tez
